Nope, they just drove by with their windows up. Some of the players(manny, lapierre, tambi, Raymond) were smiling seeing the fans. The others(bowness, shorthouse, sedins, kes, burr, lu, glass) didn't seem too happy to see a mob of fans. A lot of the players carpooled.

IMO the fans should leave them alone outside the arena, until the day they are actually parading the cup down Robson street.

TheKingdom2000 05-22-2011 09:23 PM

^ I don't see why any player would be upset to see fans after a big win.
Especially in a city where this means so much to us.

I know they just wanna go home to their families, but they are professional athletes after all. They should know how much they mean to us fans.

cliffhanger33 05-22-2011 09:27 PM

^Exactly what I was thinking. I dont know why they would be mad. I guess they're exhausted from the game and just wna rest up. But still, they should feel proud to see all their fans and supporters, especially after today's big win.

I've read on CDC that some people have spotted players shopping/dining and they went to ask them for autographs. That is out of line, but I think after a win like today's. The fans were just welcoming the players back home and congratulating them on their win.

I think the Canucks realize that they just have a job to do. The consecutive 5-3's made the game seem more lopsided than it was, the Sharks aren't going to go down easy. And so far they have never won an elimination game at home yet.

Nothing wrong with welcoming them home from afar, but to crowd around their cars like that is kind of disrespectful, and bothersome.

And?

trancehead 05-22-2011 09:44 PM

Leave them alone, especially if they are with family. You guys can take your panties off at the player's official autograph signing session

Alatar 05-22-2011 09:44 PM

I bumped into Kesler last Saturday at Las Margaritas. I just wished him good luck, in the game tomorrow, quietly as we passed each other at the entrance. He just muttered something at me under his breath.

Sw0op 05-22-2011 09:45 PM

we're kinda paying for their salaries by going to the games! heck if im paying $300 a ticket to watch them play..they better be giving me an autograph if asked for!

TheKingdom2000 05-22-2011 09:46 PM

I understand when you're out with your family or eating the players should be off limits. We should have some respect. And we Vancouvrites are generally pretty good at that. I remember an interview with Linden saying how we are pretty respectful.

But, otherwise I think it's fair game. You're a professional athlete in the public eye. What do you expect? I mean you're living the dream of countless Canadians/boys/men. I don't think you can just expect to be like anyone else. You're not. You're someone special. And I think you have to deal with that.

And yes, after 5-10-15 years of this it probably becomes a pain in the ass. But, that doesn't matter. You should still be just as jolly as you were in your first year. I mean when it comes down to it, without fans they wouldn't have a job.

I'm not saying they owe us anything, i'm just saying that they should understand that this comes with the job.

Some players are friendlier than others towards fans. The Sedins, who I met at Metrotown some years back were very friendly/outgoing. Linden was a bit private. McLean, who I would bump into in Kerrisdale often, years ago, was also very friendly, albeit rather serious.

Burrows is a really relaxed guy off the ice, as well. Salo, while quiet, is friendly, relaxed, and comes across as a very nice guy.

seakrait 05-22-2011 09:49 PM

i don't think that they can expect to be ignored. but a few "good luck tomorrow!" comments thrown their way shouldn't be treated with disdain. those fans impeding the cars' progress might have pushed it a bit. lining up on the side and just cheering to me is fine.

that being said, i live downtown so i see celebrities relatively often enough but i just admire them from afar. i think the only time i've ever said anything to a Canuck was to AV. Told him he coached a good game the night before. He said thanks with a smile. :)

I think it's fine to cheer for them at the airport but c'mon, the guys are tired after a big win so give them some space. Wish them luck and congrats on a great game but they know they got a job to do so they gotta stay focused. They haven't won anything yet.

LOL I wonder if Kes is just all intense all the time during the playoffs.

spideyv2 05-22-2011 10:35 PM

Thinking bout going to game 5, i might post up and decide to haggle with some scalpers

and lmao "I don't look to anybody to do my style, it's my own style that I'm comfortable with... I use the butterfly style like Patrick Roy mostly, but that's what I'm comfortable with."

Ronin 05-22-2011 10:58 PM

Not sure if this has been posted but sources confirming that the Moose is moving to St. Johns and the Canucks are looking for a new AHL affiliate to be our farm team.

Strangely, they're looking at the Chicago Wolves franchise. Could you imagine our farm team being in Chicago? LOL

murd0c 05-22-2011 11:00 PM

Chicago is still to far away almost twice as long as Winnipeg
