I don't care how good any player is, but the team needs to flow as one, and if one guy's out there doing his own thing, I rather put in someone that's willing to follow instructions.

And now that this has been mentioned, I actually DO notice he's always circling back, and sometimes he's the last guy back, so it's quite dangerous if the other team has a strong forechecker.

That being said, Canucks have been winning just fine without him, so AV could care less that he's scratching a 4.2 million player.

More info on this?
Was there a press conference where AV said this or was it just members here and I seemed to have missed it amoungst the fake jersey discussions?

yeah, i heard alberts is in too. last night they were saying on 1040 that ballard is sitting out because it appears he isn't buying into the system AV wants to use in regards to our defense breaking out of the zone.

the example they used is how everyone makes that 1st pass (or chip off the boards a la Aaron Rome) on the first opportunity. ballard tends to button hook back into our zone when he doesn't like what he sees. i did notice this before last night's conversation but didn't really take note of it. now that it's been brought up, i can see why AV might dislike the disruption of the flow. as far as i can remember, ballard is the only one that circles back into our zone like this.

couple of pages back

to be fair, boston has no real threat in the speed department so i'm not too worried.. hope hamhuis is back and healthy real soon though

ugh

ballard played 60ish games this year so he gets both. need 41 reg season or 1 scf game

TheKingdom2000 06-03-2011 09:16 PM

^ That makes sense. If you're last man back you definitely do not want to get caught. Come to think of it, I remember thinking "he" shouldn't be dangling like that, he's last man back that's dangerous.. And I guess "he" is in fact ballard. I guess I never put two and two together.

Makes sense.

Oh really? so Hodgson won't get his name on there? Will he be allowed to bring the Cup home if we make it (knock on woood)?

yeah, it just made logical sense when they explained it like that. i mean, if you're the 5th/6th dman and you're out there trying to do your own thing, i sure as hell wouldn't put you in the lineup often either.

6 tickets came to $62.XX including taxes.

They're $10 each not the $100 bullshit on craigslist.

Apparently TicketMaster told me they sold out ALL tickets for game 3, 4, 6 and I managed to get 6 tickets for game 3...lol

Good luck!

Two questions:

1) How does the wrist band registration work? If I show up at 10am at Richmond, will I be ok?

2) Here's a pic of my jersey from a few years ago (stick in rink logo):

A black sharpie won't show up on the blue numbering, will it?

nope he'll only probably get a ring.. unless vigneault picks his 4th line out of a hat which he seems to be doing then he'll get his name on the cup too

I feel for Ballard. He is so close to Dan Boyle at times, but other times so very far away. He's nowhere near as risky as Jovanovski was in his prime. He's an offensive minded play making rushing d-man and when they don't see a play that's safe enough to make, its more natural to turn back and reset then to chip it up and out. I can see why its hard for him to adopt the stay at home mentality all the time.

On any other team he'd be a top 4 d-man, and in that role consistently I think he would fair quite well.

Plus he throws hips like nobodies business, not even Hamhuis

trip 06-03-2011 10:01 PM

i hope hodg gets his name on the cup too

murd0c 06-03-2011 10:11 PM

If you play one game in the playoffs you will get your name on the cup

Iceman_2K 06-03-2011 10:13 PM

One game in the finals, or 41 games with the team. Team 1040 looked it up to see if Manny would get his name on there.

No, it has to be one game in the SCF, not just the playoffs.

Just a heads up for anyone who's looking to buy the Canucks Road Game Viewing Party tickets. They're currently sold out, but Ticketmaster releases them periodically, just keep checking. DO NOT BUY from the scalpers on Craigslist unless they're going for $12~$13. Don't let those wankers profit from this because the money is supposed to go to charity.

But they did pay $10 initially. I totally agree that scalping road viewing games are wrong because they are taking advantage of an charitable event. However, no one is getting ripped off. The money still goes to Canucks Place.

IMO, you snooze, you lose. Everyone had equal opportunities to buy tickets at noon.

For those wondering about the names on the cup...taken from NHL.com

SOURCE: http://www.nhl.com/cup/fun_facts.html

To have one's name engraved on the Stanley Cup certain requirements must be met. A player must have at least 41 games played with the club or one game played in the Stanley Cup Finals. However, in 1994 a stipulation was added to allow a team to petition the Commissioner for permission to have players' names put on the Cup if extenuating circumstances prevented them from being available to play.

I heard they ran out real fast today. I got mine through pre-sale, so luckily that's not something I have to worry about.

n3wb 06-03-2011 10:32 PM

So guys....Does Manny get some ice-time tomorrow?
