I eat my words, I listened to the statement in the car on the way home.
The argument is weakened. Not a blindside but a late hit.
suspended due to the aftermath
and yes the Stevens hit on Kariya in the early 2000s will most DEFINITELY get someone suspended by today's standards
Imagine this. What if Scott Stevens played today with the technology on gear. Could be worst. Scott Stevens hits are like..say a 18wheeler comin onto u at full speed.
I REALLY REALLY HOPE SHANNY DOES THE RIGHT THING NEXT SEASON. Shanny's a smart hockey man. I trust him to do everyone in the league some good deeds
I like Shannahan too; but will the a-hole bettman let him do the right thing
Nathan Horton out for the remainder of series:
17 points in 21 games and 3 game winning goals (2 of those in game 7). He was +11...and had 52 shots on goal. His chemistry with Lucic and Krejci will be hard matched to find from Recci or Senguin.
Aaron Rome out for remainder of series:
8th in ice time amongst our dmen (only ahead of Alberts). It may hurt because he shoots right and doesn't take as many risks as Ballard.
Pissed or not pissed off about the suspension, if someone said the Canucks would be up 2-1 in the Final and after 3 games Horton and Rome both wouldn't play for the remainder...would you take it??

most teams up 2-0 in cup final usually lose gm3
take that with a grain of salt. History repeats itself
Rome's biggest mistake was that he tucked his elbow in and kept his feet on the ice. Had he jumped 3 feet in the air, there wouldn't have been any problem with that hit on Horton. Rome also came in for the hit way too early. He was at least 0.5 seconds early. Had he waited until the puck was no where near the play, it would have been clean.
Now someone intrigue me. I didn't see this game or hear about this incident, so what was Blair Jones' condition after the hit?

or that other stat. teams in the scf who win game 1 by shut out, go on to win the cup
Also the other stat where the team who wins game 1 goes on to win 70 something % of the time and if it's the home team then it's like 84% of the time or something lol.
Regardless what the stats say the Canucks still need to do it and I've been confident the entire year through thick and thin and nothing has changed my mind about it yet. Looking forward to it thats for damn sure.

The whole hitting thing is getting fucking stupid. Even if you hit a guy cleanly these days and the guy gets knocked out everyone is up in arms saying it was a dirty play. The difference between a clean hit and a dirty one is a fraction of a second.
Same thing with a big legal hit and then the team mates of the guy getting hit looks for immediate revenge by trying to fight the guy dishing the hit.

I'm fine with the other team looking to avenge a huge hit - they'll receive an instigator anyway. If someone decks one of the Sedins for isntance, even if it's completely legal, I'd sure hope someone steps up to send a message.
The Horton hit was a bit late imo, Rome should have received 1 or 2 games suspension, but any dude with half a brain knows that when Rome gets back into the series, the Bruins will be gunning for him and will just be inviting a fight-fest or even worse an on-ice Bert incident.
sorry if off topic-ish but im planning on going dt tomorrow to watch the game at homer and georgia, should granville skytrain be the route I take and walk from there?

Disagree completely, the nhl releases a video every year to the teams showing legal and illegal hits to inform the team.Whether it be blindside hits or hits from behind etc etc its on the video. A high percentage of the major Scott Stevens hits are LEGAL in the videos given this year, last year etc including the Kariya hit. Even sportsnet/cbc(cant remember which of the twwo) did a interview with nhl about it when the rule first came into effect and they said ok

Yeah, and it'll be packed. Best bet is to head out the Seymour side, it's closer to homer.

Then why was the Rome hit deemed illegal and worthy of a 4 game suspension?
Do you think the injury sustained is the only reason?
