Hodgeson should start in Manitoba..theres no point rushing this kid. Yes, the boy's cleared for contact, but can his back actually keep up with the intensity.

Bringing him into the NHL environment and pace could discourage the kid if he can't play to his level. It would be smart for him to just grind it out and pace himself into the big club.

Look at the Oilers, or even Leafs Eberle and Kadri haven't exactly made the big club yet either

winson604 09-24-2010 09:29 PM

At this point in time CoHo just needs to get some playing time. Playing a couple exhibition games isn't going to do much. He needs to start in the AHL and get some serious on ice time. It's not like if he doesn't start the year with the Canucks he can't play for us this season or anything. We can bring him up anytime we want. Kid has plenty of time lets just take it slow and do it right.

shawn79 09-24-2010 09:34 PM

hodgson and schreoder shouldnt be rush... let them develop like getzlaf and perry did in the minor

Harvey Specter 09-24-2010 09:34 PM

I doubt Hodgson will live up to the hype.

shawn79 09-24-2010 09:41 PM

^ if he doesnt he will be :chop: out of town by fans and media

Not really racist! 09-24-2010 09:44 PM

^ wouldn't be surprised at all if that happened

eberle will make it this year, kadri is a 50/50 chance which is better than cody

mako 09-24-2010 10:16 PM

Canucks don't need to rush Hodgson, they don't need him to make the team this year. There's plenty of depth players to fill the 3rd and 4th lines. Let him mature a bit with the Moose, maybe develop some chemistry with the other prospects.

raygunpk 09-24-2010 10:26 PM

fans and media always beat up our players. they did with the sedins for a long time, as well as kesler, burrows, raymond to name a few.

nobody should expect hodgson to come in and make a crosby/ovechkin impact.

WhatTheShit 09-25-2010 12:29 AM

look at steve stamkos.
Second year makes a HUGE impact 51 goals

Hell his first year he made quite an impact. He just had a slow start for the first 15-20 games or so but picked it up midway. I remember he was getting lots of shit at the beginning of the season. He's just lucky he's playing in Tampa and not a Canadian city or else the media woulda been worse.

Man I remember listening to sportstalk 980 and hearing all these callers bashing the Sedins like crazy. Good on them to not let it get to them and continue to work hard and prove everyone wrong.

Stamkos was drafted by a market in which it needed a new face. He was promised a spot right off the bat. Yes, Tampa was rebuilding, but it had two very promising players in Lecavalier and St.Louis. As you can see, being the no1 draft pick and being in a market 3yrs removed from a cup in which the city JUST BARELY got to know this team really carries a different burden compared to say Cody Hodgeson who's only pressure is to play well and perform. At the end of the day, CoHo has nothing but himself to worry. If Hodgeson has a shitty camp, it will be all forgotten once the Canucks get on a role and idiots like Tony Gallagher will find ways to bash Luongo/Sedins/coaching/lack of depth/Gillis/management/team travel issues/SOB's partying etc.

Hell look at Tyler Seguin, great great player, but how much room in theory does the Bruins have to fit him in that system.

Not rush Hodgson?
I guess you don't mind him taking all the time in the world to acclimate into an NHL player. You know we drafted him in 2008. Its been 2 years 2 long.

Players in 08 Draft making an impact in the NHL
Stamkos
Doughty
Schenn
Myers
Karlson

Hodgson is acting like a primadonna.
Shroeder will have more upside than Hodgson and it looks like Shirikov will make the team before Hodgson.

Might be a gamble but I would like Gillis to package Bieska & Hodgson and see what they can get. Even if its 2 1st rounders and nhl prospect.

dim_sum 09-25-2010 11:09 AM

^ glad you're not GM.

!Nhan 09-25-2010 11:21 AM

Isn't this the last year on CoHos rookie contract? What are the chances of him staying in Vancouver if he doesn't have a roster spot with the Canucks? I think with the amount of depth we have I doubt he'd want to stay in Van. He'd probably wanna go to a place where he could get a spot in the top 6.

His contract hasn't even kicked in yet.

WhatTheShit 09-25-2010 11:31 AM

he will still be a RFA

The only reason the canucks got such a high pick that year was cuz they choked and didnt make the playoffs that year. The team wasn't rebuilding, they just choked. CoHo was the GEM that came to be from a terrible year with some great expectations. Again, the Ducks brought in Getzlaf and Perry after 2-3 seasons in junior or AHL.

The players you listed all play for rebuilding teams that needed an identity.

Luke Schenn isn't even HALF as good as a majority of those players you listed

Tyler Myers' first year was last season and he won the Calder

get your facts straight. Cody Hodgeson will make the team when the team feels hes ready. So far, he has PROVEN NOTHING to this organization.

From now on, just be patient..Armchair GMs are full of shit anyways.

rsx 09-25-2010 12:21 PM

Not a real big fan of Hodgson, but he doesn't have a fit on the team this year anyway. Let him heal his back and get back to the swing of things.

There's more upside to keeping him in the organization that to let him go.

Hondaracer 09-25-2010 12:22 PM

Coho is on his 2nd contract, his cap hit if he makes the team is around 1.1

even if his contract expires he is a RFA

!Nhan 09-25-2010 01:26 PM

Interesting. I always thought he was on his rookie contract. I understand that he's going to be a RFA at the end of it all, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to stay in Vancouver
