I would like to thank Revscene with this thread about Canucks where we gather here and cheer for the Canucks.
I would like to say after this big and long season....
I have been to most of the regular season game...
All of the viewing parties
All of the playoff games.
Shit load of alcohol, shit load of parties.
$1000 bet on Canucks to win. (lost)
My bank account raped... I am talking about ALL MY MONEY....
All of it was worth it.
After the game last night, I left outside the arena I saw a kid trying to hop a gap on to a bridge but fell through and I thought he was dead... but actually he was extremely lucky and a overhead cover caught him before he hits the ground.. there were blood everywhere..
I made my way towards Georgia and Seymour because I didn't want to drive on the streets right after. In Georgia and Seymour people were insane, they were destroying Hudson bay, lighting cars on fire and I saw them destroy a M5 on Seymour. I stood at the corner of Seymour for over an hour watching only 4 police member come in and quickly after they left due to idiots throwing glass bottles at them.
After I walked away due to police members launch tear gas an hour later. It was disgusting to see all this shit, as I made my way towards the south I see lots of things on fire and a Boston fan bottled in the head lying on the floor where fans were still KICKING the fan which is fucking retarded where 2 police officer were trying to help the Boston fan but could not overcome the 100's of rioters.
At about 1 A.M I was able to go back to where I parked my car and found my $60 Canucks flag to be stolen. But I was happy that my family and friends that were at the game was uninjured and we are lucky enough to get home by 2 A.M.
But seems like from what I see that these are not Canucks fan being reckless and rioting these are dumbass kids who uses this as an excuse to have fun. I am sure us Canucks fans are devastated that we did not win the cup. But guess what, WE HAD A GREAT RUN. I am extremely happy with how far we went with such a great series.
I was not here in Canada or enjoyed hockey our last run in 94 but this year it was just amazing for us.
I thank the Vancouver Canucks for going so far this year and having such a good series.
I thank everyone HERE that enjoyed this season and followed the team through its up's and down's.
I agree with a lot of what's been said lately. Our team is close, hopefully we can be like the Penguins, lost in the finals in '08, win the cup in '09!

We'll get it done in this lifetime. I still believe. This is all just a learning experience, and what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

What future does Hodgson have here?
By Tony Gallagher Fri, Jun 17 2011 COMMENTS(0) Gallagher
As the media lined up outside the Vancouver Canucks dressing room waiting to get in to the understandably solemn environment Wednesday night, the door to the players' lounge would open and close with people coming and going and offer the occasional glimpse in if you happened to be standing in the right place.
There sitting all alone on one of the couches was Cody Hodgson, dressed in a suit, his head down as he leaned forward.
While you shouldn't be reading much into that at all given he may well have been texting someone, this was pretty much how his season went and you have to wonder what the future in the Vancouver organization might hold for this highly skilled and highly drafted player. And there are a couple of genuine concerns he has to have going forward.
For starters he's a centre and the roster here happens to be adorned with Henrik Sedin, Ryan Kesler and Manny Malhotra. Up until the final against Boston you might also wanted to have included Maxim Laperriere but he seems to have developed something of a toxic reputation that makes it not only difficult for Vancouver to seek retention of his services, it might also impact his job search around the rest of the NHL. Whether that reputation is deserved or not is another discussion, but we digress.
Those three centres mentioned above are not going anywhere in the foreseeable future and unless there is a plan to somehow convert Hodgson into a winger—something that hasn't even been experimented with at this point—there appears to be very little future in Vancouver for the kid to spread his wings.
Further it's abundantly clear coach Alain Vigneault is not one of his big fans as the youngster always the last possible option and was repeatedly slotted into situations seemingly designed to make him fail. And when the predictable occurred his ice time shrank and shrank before he finally disappeared from view entirely in the final. Had the Canucks won the Cup, his name would not have been included unless the team had made a special petition to have it added.
In his final shifts, Hodgson was clearly far more concerned with not making a mistake than he was with making a play. It was all he could do to safely dump the puck into the offensive zone and scurry to the bench keeping his shifts under 30 seconds whenever possible. Contrast this with how the Sedins broke into the league in their first year in 2000-01 when they played 82 games and never missed a power play.
It isn't known whether there is anything personal between the coach and the player, but one suspects not yet. But it's clear Vigneault had no confidence in Hodgson this year and it's not really clear how that's going to change in the near future if the Canucks keep the coach on. Further, who knows if any of Vancouver's pending free agents have any problem with the coach which may impact their desire to stay in Vancouver. It's clear he's not the most popular coach in Vancouver history with his players although it's not likely it's yet reached the point where it was in Montreal. In his final days with the Habs, the players called Vigneault 'Mr. Gant ' among themselves, short for Mr. Arrogant.
Just how this works itself out is going to be fascinating to watch.
"I've been telling Cody to stay with it, stay positive and that he would score the Cup winning goal," said Hodgson's agent Ritch Winter from Philadelphia Thursday where he was shuttling another client Ilya Bryzgalov around Philadelphia and the Flyers practice facility where a meeting with Ed Snider and their coaches was evidently going to take place. "It didn't work out that way and I'm waiting for things to cool down before we talk. It's clearly going to be a challenging situation there."
There is the possibility Hodgson could request a trade although that's getting way ahead of the game at this point. But Winter certainly has it right. It is a challenging situation.
The comments Lu made about Thomas was suicide. Yes Lu is a good goalie, but he is far too incosistent..like someone on HockeyCentral said, he has very high high's and very low low's. I'm not confident with him in net.
The Sedin's are soft, period. They have skill, but they don't seem to have that grit to really push forward and prevail.
Everyone thought we were gonna take out the Bruins in 5 or 6, thinking it would be an easy series. But clearly, they wanted to win more.
Saw kes and chatted 5 min with him. He said he would buy me dinner if they don't win tonightt. Same spot I met him at yesterday next week he sAid Posted via RS Mobile
Time to collect!

I ended up putting another $100 down on the Bruins before Game 7... but even then, the Canucks curse is just much too strong... my bad luck on gambling was no match for it.

Good season boys.
I'll be ready for next year.
The thing is, with the Stanley Cup being the ultimate prize, ideally winning that would be the main accomplishment, and everything else like winning the Presidents' Trophy and team records and stuff would be the cherries on top...

Well, might not have been that lucky... news reports still say he's in critical condition... and I have a friend on FB who works the ER and she has other nurse friends there that said he's not going to make it as his head is smashed in... but until the news says otherwise, best of luck to him.

quoted this already, but i hope you actually show up back at that spot next week! so jelly if it actually happens. it'd be great to just have dinner with him despite the circumstances, and talk hockey. the guy's an outstanding guy who played his heart out through whatever injuries were ailing him
you better make a new thread with photos and whatever if he/you show!
What about Canucks vs. Habs next year, fuck that would be epic.
Anyways, I think it's time to put this thread to bed and lock it up. It was an epic season, and the Canucks sure did put on a incredible show for the fans. Hopefully we can build from this season and not have to wait too long to be in the cup finals again.
Well, bookies still have the Canucks as relatively heavy favorites for game 7, despite the fact that all three of the home wins have been by the smallest of margins.
However, I can't help but to have this really bad feeling in the pit of my stomach.
I know:
-EA simulated the Canucks to win in 7 games over Boston before the season started
-EA simulated the Canucks to win in 7 games again before the Finals started
-Home team has won every game so far, as EA predicted
-Only three times in history has a road team won game 7 on the road (last one was very recent, Pittsburgh in 2009)
-Canadian city has won the Stanley Cup the year after hosting Olympics everytime
Despite all this, the ironist in me can't help but to think all this will blow up in our faces, and all these predictions and trends will end with the Canucks and the team is cursed.
God do I hope I'm wrong.
I just knew it was too good to be true. *Sigh*
Even my bad luck in gambling failed to turn the tides...
