My last post in this thread... Did anyone ever think that the reason why Luongo played the way he did was because of the fans/lack of support by the fans? No goalie in the history of the game, even Cloutier, got as much heat as Luongo. Instead of being worried that he will be the blame for losing the cup, or any game for Vancouver, maybe if the fans were more supportive, Luongo could play a lot more relaxed.
yes he is a professional, but he is human. Aside from hockey, he has a wife, kids, family and friends. Imagine how you would feel if you were being scrutized by your boss every day every move you make etc... To the point where if you know you made ONE mistake, you would be burned at the stake.
^I think it's cause he's getting paid 10 mill this year, one of the highest in the league? His play in the post season didn't back it up. He showed signs of greatness and signs of complete failure

why do people keep bringing up how much he gets fucking paid! if someone offered you a huge raise, would you refuse it? If anyone, you all should be blaming Gillis.
Lu could care less what the fans think of him. His issue right now is between the ears. Appears to lose focus after a goal. Also seems to be a high-maintenance kind of player, if you asked me.
I'm sure he will get better in due time. His first year with us was simply awesome.
.............. wait a second, how the fuck did this turn against me?
I think all you read from my post was " bandwagoner" and "sport has no value".
I DID NOT say professional sports have no positive effects or useless. I SAID if you think about it, professional sport at the end of the day it's just a GAME, it's entertainment.
Yes, it inspires people to "reach for their dreams", and "push harder! stronger", but at the end of the day it's just a game.
The intrinsic value of professional sports is measured by how much society cares about it.
Does the canucks have a positive effect on the city of vancouver? YES
i DID NOT say sport doesn't motivate or inspire, DO NOT put words in my mouth.
what I SAID in my post was i had nothing but RESPECT for our hockey players, who fully dedicated their bodies and minds for their profession.
what I SAID in my post was our players played through pains and injuries that the common folks like you and I would be missing work or getting WCB for.
What I SAID in my post was that the riot that happened HAS ruined our team image and our city image to the world, and that CIVIL fans and vancouverites need to REPRESENT our city and our team in positive light, how it SHOULD have been instead of having rioters ruining our names.
what i SAID was a lost is a lost, and it was a heartbreaker. And it hurts to not see our team win. But when we win one we will finally get over it.
THATS ALL.
i do not know what you were reading to think i am shitting on our team or our city or in sport in general, so let me rephrase what i said:
-watching the olympics got me interested in hockey again,
-the passion and vibe from this city during this run got me hooked into hockey.
-professional athletes aren't doctors, they aren't the farmers that produce our food, they aren't the soldiers that keep maintain peace; they are people that are really good at what they do, and what they do is entertainment in the form of sport. But their dedication and professionalism earn my respect and how they played the game, WHICH IS AN ENTERTAINMENT, have gotten my attitude and respect.
-riot happened, a lot of the rioters were in canucks gear, not a good image to represent vancouver to the world. It will take time to repair, so those of us that can enjoy and celebrate or mourn in civil and relatively peaceful manner should represent our city and our team well to erase the negative rioting images that are broadcasted all over the world.
So i basically got shit on by you after i said i aint hopping off the wagon because after watching this year's hockey i am interested by it?
wow
Entire team apparently at Cactus Club Yaletown location

No, but I would at least do my best to back up my salary and prove I'm worth it. He brought it on himself by accepting that ridiculous contract.
As long as Lu is here, he's gonna get scrutinized and crucified whenever we lose a meaningful game..he's not gonna have a happy career over here, so either way, I think it's best if he gets traded

Who is to say he didn't try? You of all people should know that just because you try, doesn't always mean you get your way. I am sure when you play hockey you TRy to get a goal every shift you are out there.. but you don't. not even close.
Then what if Lu gets traded? We have Schneids as our number 1? Then a few years later we trade him because he can't win us a cup? What if we had Rinne? Canuck fans will always criticize. No matter who is in net.

There would definitely be less pressure on Schneider, that's for sure. You never know though? What if Schneider steals the number 1 spot and wins us a cup Cam Ward styles

Big part of the reason why Luongo gets criticized is because he's making 10 million a year
I don't think how much he makes really matters. We've seen his a-game and he is damn near unbeatable when he is at his best. I think folks criticize him cuz he doesn't always perform at or near that level in some those games that really mattered. And his consistency in the playoffs was really troubling

Luongo might have a reasonable cap hit, and the Canucks can easily afford 10 million for him, but the length of his contract really handcuffs the team should trading him be a move that helps the team. No he is not at fault for accepting such a contract and no one knows what happened behind closed doors - he may very well have asked if the contract was a good idea. But he did ultimately put pen to paper. I know some Canuck fans were quite happy to brag that players like Kesler, Burrows, Hamius, etc accepted less than what they could have demanded in contract negotiations because winning meant more to them. Would Luongo have been awarded a longer contract or for more money or both with another team?
Also cause Thomas makes a lot less than him and stole every game for the bruins Posted via RS Mobile
Thomas' cap hit is at 5mil, and Luongo's at 5.3mil
Pretty similar. That's all that matters to us fans...
But yes, his inconsistency is very troublesome. During playoffs,
there isn't time for a slump. The season's over before you snap out of it.
But that being said, I'm not sure what other goalie's superhuman like Thomas. (But you have to remember his D played a big role too).
It's hard to say Schneider would have done better. We can only speculate that, because he wasn't playing most of the time.
So he by default gets a win...?
