Everyone says Luongo is inconsistent...look at how many goals Thomas let in against Tampa and how fucking awful some of them are.

He plays big in big games but he can shit the bed too. Everyone can.

My only problem with Louie is his mental strength. He can say whatever he wants but he looks absolutely deflated after 2-3 goals. I remember in last year's playoffs...coincidently regarding the Bruins...Tuuka Rask let in 3 goals in the first period on 3 shots or some shit and Krecji or Bergeron or someone came up to him and said "Don't worry about it. You shut the door from here on and I promise we will get back into this." Sure enough, Rask is perfect the rest of the way and the Bruins score 4 to win.

To be honest, I see that mental fortitude in Schneider. That guy is cool as a cucumber whether it's 2-1 or 5-1. We saw Schnoo make big saves even with the game possibly out of reach.

All we need is a chance to win and we didn't get that from Louie in game 7. 3 goals on 14 shots? Terrible. He knows he needs to be better...everyone knows they need to be better.

If Pittsburgh can do it, so can we.

It's like what one Philly fan said during a call on team1040, don't make the mistake giving up on Lu because you might be looking for a goalie for the next 10 years and sometimes you don't know what you have until you give it up.

There's no question that Lu has had difficulty proving himself in the post season but I like the idea of having Lu and Cory dual it out next season and worrying about the goalie situation next summer. We've seen this happen with other teams, the starter gets benched because the backup plays much better.

I remember someone posted here saying that he was chatting with Kesler downtown and that if Canucks didn't win, he'd buy him dinner. Just wondering if Kesler actually pulled through and bought him dinner? :fullofwin:

luongo and thomas had identical numbers going into the finals

My friend who works at the Cactus Club in YT said Bieksa, Lu and a couple other players she didn't recognize came down and sat on the patio yesterday evening. She said a few people who were wearing Canucks jerseys had them autographed but for the most part people left the guys alone. I would assume most of the players will be out of Vancouver and heading home by this weekend.

SkinnyPupp 06-17-2011 05:14 AM

the Bruins were off the tarmac within 2 hours of wining the cup :lol

Can't say I blame them for not wanting to hang around any longer than they had to.

Hondaracer 06-17-2011 06:41 AM

IMO it's more to do with the toxic relationship luongo has with the fans than his mental toughness

I doubt Luongo or any other player gives a shit what the fans think.

That shows how very little you know.

You think it's easy to do your job when no one belives in you? You don't think the feeling works it's way into the team
Eventually when people call for trades/shake ups season after season? You don't think that gets into his head when he's the type of guy who trips out over how his helmet feels or how a warm up went? Please..

Fans here HURT the team, when players see "fans" who hate on and question players all season long then can't do anything but smash windows after a cup final you don't think players look at that and think maybe it's somthing they don't want to be a part of?

looks like Raymond in the middle with his back brace on

I think the pressure of playing in Vancouver will affect any goalie's mental toughness

its the fact that one mistake and he has the whole city against him, and then one great save has the whole city behind him, the whole rollercoaster of unstable emotions of the fans can have a big impact on him. how can you believe your the best goalie when everyone else doubts it, its not impossible, but very improbable

i totally agreed with that caller and his opinion. all we have to do is remember who we had other than Lu: Cloutier, Snow, Auld, Raycroft, Sanford, etc. Even if we had Rinne on this team, there would still be a large contingent of fans who would hate him. Let's not even discuss what people would do to Thomas if he were our guy.

we still have the tandem of Luongo/Schnieder for at least one more year. combining to win the Jennings trophy was no fluke, these two guys shut the door this year and i'm super thankful we still have the both of them.

At first I thought it was an apron...forgot he had the brace on for a sec :lol

From the pic I can spot Hamhuis, Salo, MayRay, back of Edlers head, back of a Sedin head, Samuelsson and Juice

that's another thing, this also affected the entire team. never before has our team played to such high expectations (since before the season even began, really). henrik on his first year as captain excelled in handling the pressure. the whole team kept their composure throughout the season too. this was one hell of a season that i'm sure will be remembered for a very long time to come.

hopefully we can learn from Pittsburgh's experience and come back to the final next year. the way i see it, we have a good 3-4 year window of opportunity to continue being very successful with our core group.

T'was a very legendary run Canucks. Thank you for the roller-coaster ride of a season/playoffs!

murd0c 06-17-2011 09:38 AM

I have to say the year was beyond awesome. Yes the result we wanted didnt happen but man the memories were great. Wed after the game I was pissed and didn't want anything to do with hockey but man I'm excited about next season. Gillis will make the changes and we will win the cup next year!!!
