As long as the twins are playing, it should be a watchable game!

Bummer for Wellwood, released from PTO by the Coyotes

JKam 10-01-2010 03:05 PM

Apparently Shiro was sent down to Manitoba with Sauve. Not official but some Manitoba newspapers are reporting it.

The guy is essentially invisible all year long and shows up on occasion in the playoffs. No surprise he can't find a job.

sucks to see two former leafs, tucker and wellwood, without jobs in the nhl. I don't like seeing veteran players squeezed out of jobs in the nhl simply because of the way the CBA is structured. the cap era has only made the nhl more cold and calculated. most players seem more like disposable assets with an even shorter shelf life. a player in his early 30's, usually in the prime of his career, doesn't to hold the same high value he once did. i know, financially, the no-cap era wasn't working for a lot of american/small market teams but i really miss it more than ever. that and the apparent pussification of the nhl for the american market has me really missing the mid 80's to mid 90's hockey i grew up watching.

how is it the CBA's fault 2 shitty former leafs cant find a team to play for? what about the dozens of other players who retire every year because they arent good enough to play until they are 40?

LUUUUUUUU 10-01-2010 05:11 PM

He's not in the line up tonight. Yet Schaeffer is. Not sure how much we are supposed to read into this. Although you would think they would play B.Mo if he was still in consideration. Canucks have till next wedsnesday before his contract over.

It could also mean they've decided they want him and is working out a contract, no one really knows.

my rant wasn't just about former leafs who are out of jobs, it was about all veteran players in the nhl who are out of jobs they would have still had if there was no cap. guys who still produced as much as the rookies but provided much more with their experience in leadership.

edit. a non-biased hockey fan would never have assessed tucker as a shitty player in his prime, he was one of those guys fans of other teams loved to hate but would have loved to have him on their team. he played a hard nose intense game that took a toll on his body and I wish the leafs were closer to being a lock for the playoffs now because they could have used him. wellwood on the otherhand, im not too upset about. but he did leave the leafs on relatively good terms so in a way I would have liked to see things turn out for him.

They prob already saw enough of him and have a good idea what they awnt to do. But with players like Schaefer, they are still on the fence so they giving him one last shot to impress.

Canucks acquire Vancouver Millionaires trademarks

Possible new vintage jerseys? (This is from when the Vancouver Giants wore them a while back)

IMO they're pretty nice.
