Probably meant leading point getter for Canada. Demo led the tournament with 10 :D

Toews deserves it but I'm just surprised they chose back to back Blackhawks.

shawn79 06-15-2010 05:38 PM

Sedins should have been on the cover

2nd and 3rd in point per game % behind ovechkin (4th crosby)

crosby is his little own thing, EA cannot afford

Raymond is good trade bait come draft day

Expresso 06-16-2010 09:45 AM

Everyone keeps saying how the Canucks need bigger forwards, but is that going to change in the next few years?

Considering our top two lines are set and now everybody wants Hodgson/Grabner to play on the 3rd line. That just leaves the 4th line?

Canucks' Alex Burrows may start next season in sick bay

Quote:

VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks may have to start next season without their top goal-scorer.

Winger Alex Burrows had shoulder surgery last week to repair a torn labrum and it is far from certain he will be ready to play when the Canucks open the regular season in early October.

Paul Corbeil, Burrows' agent, said Monday that he does not expect Burrows to be ready for training camp and suggested he could also miss the early part of the regular season.

"He may not be ready to play until sometime in October or November," Corbeil said.

Burrows' injury is the same one winger Pavol Demitra had last season and the Canucks will have their fingers crossed that his recovery goes better than Demitra's did. Demitra required a second surgery before he finally returned after missing the first 47 games of the regular season.

Corbeil said Burrows' shoulder began bothering him in the second half of the season, but said his client was determined to finish the season.

"He played with that during the season, but you know Alex is a big warrior," Corbeil said.

Canuck assistant general manager Laurence Gilman said Burrows' play was affected by the injury, especially in the playoffs. "He clearly played with pain in the playoffs," Gilman said. "It definitely impacted his effectiveness. But Alex didn't want to come out of our lineup and wanted to play through the pain."

Burrows, 29, led the team with a career-high 35 goals in the regular season, but his production waned late in the season and in the playoffs. Burrows did not score in the team's last six regular-season games and two of his three playoff goals were empty-netters.

Gilman said Burrows sought a second medical opinion, with the Canucks' blessing, before deciding to have the surgery.

Gilman said it's too early to say how long Burrows will be out, although he acknowledged the recovery period for labrum surgery is "definitely a period of months."

"We don't know," he added. "He's only a week post-operative. As he moves through the healing process and the swelling goes down, he will be evaluated in the next 10 days or two weeks at which point we will have a better idea as to what his course of rehabilitation will be."

The labrum is a cuff of cartilage located in the shoulder joint that forms a cup in which the arm bone can move. The labrum circles the shallow shoulder socket to help make the socket deeper.

Gilman said he didn't know how the injury occurred or whether it was the result of a specific incident or just wear and tear.

"We are 100 per cent confident he will have a full recovery," Gilman said.

Burrows has been an iron man of sorts for the Canucks. He has missed just one game in the past four seasons.

Burrows, who played most of last season on Vancouver's top line with Daniel and Henrik Sedin, has three years remaining on a contract that pays him $2 million a season.
