He is the captain so it is his job to speak to the refs. I am assuming he was leaving to tell the ref things were under control. Manny had it under control but Hank is calm guy while Kes and Bieksa kind of let things get to them.

What a joke. Did Rypien “come into the stands“? No. Reached into them, sure. Was this guy afraid for his well being? Didn't seem like it when he was high-fiving his way to the front row.

This guy needs to really be assaulted now so he understands the difference.

I hate obvious sue-happy American cash grabs like this.

These guys are professionals - if they can't stand a taunt from the fans, they shouldn't be in the league. I could maybe understand if the fan touched him, threw a beer on him, or something of that nature. If you sat in that seat and tossed an insult to a player on his way into the dressing room, would you be expected to defend that physically?

Besides, good riddance. AV is the only reason why Ryp is even in the league. He's a fearless fighter, but he's injury prone, has rumoured substance abuse problems, and can't do much else on the ice.

punkwax 10-20-2010 03:02 PM

^ I understand your point completely, but think you misunderstood mine. I'm not condoning Rypien's behaviour. I'm just saying turning it into a lawsuit is a complete joke.

Not really racist! 10-20-2010 03:17 PM

Repost? different article.

Fucking lawsuit is a joke.. jeez

Canucks' Rypien suspended indefinitely pending in-person hearing

Feisty Canucks forward Rick Rypien has been suspended indefinitely by the National Hockey League for lunging out at a fan after being suspended for fighting during Vancouver's 6-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild Tuesday night.

"Rypien has been suspended, pending a hearing, as a result of becoming involved in an altercation with a fan during NHL Game #76 last night in Minnesota," said a terse press release from the league early Wednesday. "The incident took place at 13:38 of the second period.

"The League will have no comment until the matter has been resolved."

I heard he was in rehab cause he was addicted to pain killers or some other drug.

So... I guess Tambellini is playing tonight.

From the minute he got into that scrap with the Wild player to sucker punching him to being tossed around like a rag doll by the ref and then shoving henrik, he was definitely riled up and ready to snap at ANY altercation. The littlest thing would have set him off and so it wasn't him not being able to handle insults by fans but the fact that a fan said anything at all. He was basically seeking an excuse to fight someone.

Maybe he's on a pain-killer withdrawal or something 'cause he actually looked like he was gonna kill someone.

AzNightmare 10-20-2010 03:57 PM

Well, let's be honest here.

If you personally were at a game, and some player jumped and grabbed you for no good reason,
you would be pissed enough to file lawsuit and get some money if you could.

But the bottom line is Rypien had no right to even make contact with a fan like that.

punkwax 10-20-2010 04:04 PM

Honestly, no I wouldn't. Unless I was physically harmed without any provocation, I'm not the type to cash grab. Its a pet peeve of mine and I despise scammers who have the mentality you just described. Honestly.

I'd have a great story to tell the rest of my life and that's about it.

Same here. I would not. I'd be ashamed of myself if I did that. Hell I'm jealous of that kid, what a great night that must have been for him.

rsx 10-20-2010 04:15 PM

I wouldn't. If I was left unharmed with a scrunched up shirt, I'd take it in stride and laugh it off. I mean, how cool would that be?

I'd even go as far as releasing a statement that I was unharmed and that the media shouldn't be blowing it out of proportion. These guys play with an edge and sometimes it's difficult to just turn it off, especially, within the time span that the incident happened.

Bouncing Bettys 10-20-2010 04:16 PM

If this had happened in Canada, lawsuit talk wouldn't really come up. Frivolous lawsuits are almost just another method of attaining the American Dream down there.

mako 10-20-2010 04:18 PM

Americans will sue for anything and win
