lol that's how we settled things in elementary yard ball if the bell rang and the score was close/tied.

its taking one facet of a game, a breakaway (which is clear and you have no pressure...rare in regulation time) and deciding an outcome of a game based on this. For the same argument, you could have the players sprint to see whose the fastest, who can dangle the most, etc.

Just because the olympics and other international levels use the shootout does not make it valid. For the olympics its more of, "we need to wrap up this game and get the fuck out of this arena before the next event". How anti climatical would it have been for Canada to win gold in SO.

Soccer is not the same game as hockey. Dont know why you brought that into the conversation. NBA games are not decided with a slam dunk contest. And water polo games arnt decided by who can hold their breath under the water the longest

I think its fine to have it in the Regular Season, you're not entirely screwed over because you already have one point in the books, plus it is exciting. I'd argue 3 shooters is not enough and they should go with 5, it gives each team the opportunity to come back from early misses/saves. And I think water polo would just have shoot (throw?) outs as well, they already have penalty shots.

3 points for a win wont work, teams would be far to spread out in the standings, I agree though that teams would play harder to get that regulation time win which is what I personally wan to see... However I just can't see the NHL implementing that point system. Who knows might be proven wrong. :)

Maybe it would be different for the Mens hockey Tourney, but I remember at least one Juniors gold medal game being decided by shootout and it was crazy intense watching it.

I dunno, I remember watching the '94 Olympic final at like 5am and the tension during the shootout was insane.

20 y/o Foppa vs 19 y/o Kariya, pretty cool vid, brings back some memories

DanHibiki 10-21-2010 09:04 PM

Anything down to the wire with lots of tension is exciting.

Hell I remember during a game 7 game that went into extra innings during one MLB playoffs was exciting as hell. Every pitch was so crucial. But it was only because of the circumstances, I find baseball boring as fuck.

Anyways I don't like shootouts 'cause we suck in them but at the same time I don't hate them because I think they are necessary. I have no stance.

shawn79 10-21-2010 10:15 PM

iihf and nhl should not compare rules because international ice involve a mixture of european and north american game play which is too confusing

I do agree that shootouts are exciting but they should not be a deciding factor in a game--especially something of a gold medal magnitude!

Ronin 10-21-2010 11:14 PM

Man, that goal...probably one of the most famous shootout goals ever...The Foppa.

...and it STILL SUCKS compared to a real fucking goal. Fuck shootouts.

Personal favorite breakaway/shootout move:

Too bad Naslund is done for good. Not even playing in Modo anymore.

Ronin 10-22-2010 03:45 AM

No, I was at the open practice...the place was packed. I'd say at least 2/3rd's full.

The situation with ownership can't possibly help. Fans don't know if the team will be here next season.
