I understand Washington's frustration from last year now. Montreal's defence seems to block or deflect 70% of the shots taken.

We tried to win it by skill. We ended up with just perimeter shooting all night with secondary chances far between.

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo disappointed in Samuellson so far though. Yeah he did well with the twins against LA last play-offs but that's about it. I'm not sure if I'm correct but I think I see a pretty big Kovalchuk-syndrome with this guy; basically just looking for passes to shoot but rarely has the grinding aspect in his play to generate possession or chances for his teammates.

I mean, yes he has a great shot but there's really nothing else to write home about. Hitting? Nope. Forecheck? Nope. Goalie screen? Playmaking? Backchecking/defense? Nope. I wish this guy had more to offer, more dimensions to his game.

Tegra_Devil 11-10-2010 06:26 AM

thank god the flames pulled off this win...we needed some good scoring from the depth

AzNightmare 11-10-2010 08:26 AM

Someone just needs to anger Samuelsson...

Too bad he's probably gonna be retired in 4 years.

It's like he's reverted back to his Detroit days and aims for the goalies logo every shot now. I don't really care if he rips it up during the regular season but I hope he'll still be clutch come playoff time.

He put up 30 goals last year playing 2nd line minutes, and was one of the top scorers league-wide in the playoffs....what more do you want? He's only making 2.5mil, and his previous career high was 23 goals.....if you were expecting another 30 goal season I think its safe to say you will be sadly disappointed. 20 would be a reasonable expectation.

Uhhhh. We're talking about this season not last season, genius. What people expect from 2.5 million is some effort which he clearly isn't giving at this time. When you see his line-mates Kes and Raymond hustling and going 100% every shift you notice Sammys lack of effort pretty easily.

You might want to re-read my post again, because as I recall, I was looking for more in Samuellson's game than just goals or points

And for $2M, Burrows-like work ethic from a measly 20 goal scorer is what I reasonably expect. Basically what I'm alluding to is the blue-collar aspect of the game.
