When the room stands up and cheers for a goal but the announcer says "Oh no" it seems wrong to me-- unless you're a Leafs fan of course.

It's not called being biased, it's called being objective and non-biased.

The difference between him and a room standing up and cheering is that he is NOT a Canucks fan here, nor should he be.

Regardless of which team let in a goal like that, his reaction would be the same "Oh no", because it was a bad goal. Just the same, if there was a fantastic goal, he would be going crazy about it no matter which team it was.

DanHibiki 11-13-2010 11:13 PM

I'm confused. Is Eff-1 saying Jim Hughson is a leafs homer?

Because if that is what he is saying then he is quite wrong since Hughson was the commentator for the Canucks for what...10 years?

InvisibleSoul 11-13-2010 11:13 PM

Woohoo! We win!

Yeah, the Flames forum was all over this dude.

Yes, that is what he's saying, which is completely ironic given that most others (like Flames fans) regularly complain about how Hughson is a Canucks homer even on CBC nationwide broadcasts with his "GREEEEEEAT SAVE LUONGO!"s, etc.

Then how's this?

Quote:

In an interview with the FAN 590, Canucks general manager Mike Gillis explained that Ballard is not yet 100 percent.

"Keith [Ballard] had an hip injury that he dealt with all summer long, so he was not weight-bearing for about two months. He got a bit of a slow start and then when he got the concussion he had to be off for a minimum of a week without any physical activity. It just seemed to set him back a bit."

Earlier this week when Dan Hamhuis was set to return from injury, head coach Alain Vigneault was asked who would be scratched from the lineup. He said that he was not sure yet but he will "[play] the players who enable you to win," leading Canucks fans to speculate that Ballard was scratched for performance reasons.

Gillis clarified that it was for health reasons and not performance-related.

"We're treating this as more of a injury-related than a healthy scratch because we don't think he's been 100% yet and so we're going to take a bit of time and let him work really hard and treat this as little bit of a training camp, so he can get his feet under him."

"Keith's a very big, important part of this team. He's going to be fine and we're very happy to have him."

Listen turkey. I've heard the GREAT SAVE LUONGOs before. Yes Hughson was the Canucks announcer before Shorthouse. Yes he's a done a great job for us in the past. Yadda yadda.

Regardless, at the end of the day, the way he called that goal to me sounded like he was disappointed the Canucks scored. Which is unfortunate at best.

Feel free to disagree.

spoon.ek9 11-13-2010 11:42 PM

i think hughson just meant that a good game was going to be decided by a bad goal. "oh no" as in, this is not a good way to end it for the fans. the game was a close one and for it to come down to a play like that.. yeeeah.

Then the problem is you're interpreting it wrong, plain and simple.

This isn't even a matter of opinion it's quite obvious what was meant when he said "oh no!".

You not being able to pick up the meaning behind it is like a person who does not pick up on sarcasm.

He's protecting Ballard from the ruthless media attention here in Vancouver. With this report there won't be any unnecessary pressure on him when he returns in the lineup. He was cleared to play by the doctors which mean he is 100% but that does not mean is in shape.

As for the game, always good to see leafs lose.

The guy works for who now?
CBC..

2nd point
hes gotta keep it in a professional manner, especially for a NATIONAL broadcast. If it was a local broadcast, there would be a different tone to the way the game was called from jimmy simple as that

AzNightmare 11-14-2010 02:11 AM

lol...
:Popcorn

Enjoy the game... who cares.
When you guys watch the game live, there isn't even any commentating.
It's really not that big of a deal to have a 2 page discussion.

Armind 11-14-2010 02:31 AM

2-0 was such a good bait to make a bet with my uncles from Toronto. :D

LOL my dad and I started laughing out loud when we saw this guy.

The guy pops up at the 17 second mark:

Overall it was a very entertaining game. Lu basically stole the show in the 3rd and kept the Canucks in it. On a side, I found it funny how after the game Don Cherry was claiming the winning goal was deflected in when the replay clearly showed the puck never hit the Leaf players stick.

Video of Don Cherry:

Awwwww......... some quality time with the old man. So sweet.

I'm just jealous, 'cause I rarely watch games with my sons. Daughter and I, on the other hand, watch the games together religiously.

My father and I used to watch the Leafs play every Saturday Night. HNIC with Foster Hewitt. Dave Keon, Tim Horton, Johnny Bower, The Chief........ then there were the bad guys, the Montreal Frogs. Those were the good old days.

Harvey Specter 11-14-2010 02:54 AM

I never get time to watch a game with my dad but it's nice when I do.

Your sons aren't into hockey or too busy watching the games with their friends?

AzNightmare 11-14-2010 03:28 AM

My dad's chinese and he rents tapes of badminton and ping pong matches. no joke.
Once a month when I'm watching hockey, he might walk in and ask me which team's the canucks... then leaves the room.

I have no clue what they do. One's on-line 24/7 it seems and the other is never home.

Wait........... I'm the one on-line 24/7, LOL.

MG1 11-14-2010 03:47 AM

Both Grapes and Milbury fucked up on that call.

Sounds like a Tim Hortons commercial. Then he'll surprise you by telling you what position you played.

Double double.
