Salo, Bieksa, Alberts contracts will be up
I don't think Ehrhoff will make more than Hamhuis
Somewhere in the 4mil range & he said he likes Vancouver too Posted via RS Mobile
He was the 3rd best d-man on Nashville and yes I know Nashville has one of the premier d-men in Weber and Suter but I think Edler is now near the level of Suter and Ehroff is pretty close as well. Never expected him to be our #1 or 2 guy but he makes a solid #3/4 d-man.
Hamhuis may have been their 3rd best d-man, but he also WAS their top shutdown d-man, playing other teams top lines and lots of PK time. I think he should be a good replacement for Mitchell in terms of being a reliable defensive defenseman (with more offensive upside than Mitchell).

Last week, Erhoff and his agent wanted "market value". I like Erhoff too, but he isn't in the same league as Gonchar, Markov, or even Mark Streit (European Ds who are offensive-minded). He's probably good for 40 points a year and he has the same skill set as Alex Edler (although a little less physical), so he should be paid accordingly.
That Ballard contract looks like an albatross now and that will hamstring the team a bit for the next couple of years unless a trade can be made. No D should be paid more than Hamhuis, unless he's a bonafide No.1/2 D (a la Duncan Keith, Doughty, Pronger, etc.) I don't blame Gillis for making the deal at the time though as he couldn't hedge his bets on being able to sign Hamhuis.
Hopefully the Canucks can dump Bieksa this season and get something for him. Salo is basically done, I bet he'll just retire or go play in Europe if he doesn't get signed because I can't see too many times wanting to sign him. And I watched Ehrhoff yesterday on Canucks this week and he seems like he does want to stay in Vancouver, he said he loves the city.
Personally Hamhuis has lived up to my expectations. He was just supposed to be a solid D, not some flashy offensive d-man. I'm not expecting him to pinch like Bieksa, nor to try to get random oddman rushes like Ehrhoff everytime he is on ice. As long as he manages to stop the other teams' star players decently well, he's worth the money.
