Theses are just some of the reasons why he shouldnt retire. Still has a bomb, one of the best sticks around.

If you saw him running at the seawall or something, you'd never guess he was an athlete, let alone an NHL hockey player.

There's a few players who are not all that big, it's mostly core/quads. Check out Wayne Simmonds legs lol.

Ronin 11-16-2010 07:09 PM

The bottom line is...the Canucks are a better team with Salo on it.

I know we all expect Salo to be gone next year but I'm hoping he takes a paycut to stay here...or else I'd say he's going to Europe. He'll be 35. $1.5m maybe?

EmperorIS 11-16-2010 07:31 PM

as much of a annoyance salo is with his injuries .. i have to admit i never really consider the nucks at full strength until salo is playing

I remember seeing Jyrki Lumme at a mall back in the day, and the fucker had legs like a horse. Pretty insane.. Makes guys like Salo look even weaker :lol

^ you just said it. Canucks are a better team with Salo on it and they're considered an elite team. I could see other teams offer 3M+. He will make more than 1.5M, if not he'd be as big a score as Burrows is at 2.

With Edler stepping up like he is and with Salo's injury history, my money is on Gillis parting ways and letting Salo earn his final paycheques elsewhere a la Ohlund / Mitchell. "Thanks for your service, now go cash in."

$1.5 seems like a pretty big discount for the canucks organization.

He is still an excellent D-man with a power slap shot, and he is always in good positioning. I think he can fetch at least $2.5M from another nhl team, even with his injuries reputation.

But I gotta agree with you, I would want him to stay for $1.5M each year for the next 2 years.

Ballard and Hamhuis has been pretty FAIL so far. GG

yet he has the hardest slapshot on the Canucks

It'll be a 35 and over contract so we can give him a bonus incentive deal. Like if he plays over 60 games the contract is $2 million, less than 60 games then $1 million.

This. I'm sure Gillis and Lawrence Gilman are already thinking about it for next year. Personally, I'll be happy with Salo gets back in the lineup. He was awesome last year.

Salo - Hamhuis
Edler - Ehrhoff
Ballard - Bieksa
Rome - Alberts

You tell me that isn't badass. That's a Cup-worthy D-corp right there. We don't have a serious #1 D-man like Duncan Keith, Chris Pronger or the like but every single one of those top-6 guys could be a #2 D-man.

I'm not sure he does... Edler has won the hardest shot contest in the skills competition the last three years. I don't know whether Salo was in any of them or always injured... but Edler has done 103MPH at least.

InvisibleSoul 11-16-2010 08:44 PM

There's big talk over on the Flames forum about a possible deal between the Flames and Kings... Iginla for B. Schenn plus fillers...

trancehead 11-16-2010 08:53 PM

Not every hockey player is Rob the Bod Brind'Amour guys

Iginla is still a force! Lets pray LA does not get them. They would be one of the best in west in that case

Doesn't matter cause the whole 2 million will still count against the cap.

If he does meet the bonus and the Canucks go over the cap they can carry the extra $1 million over to next year. Don't quote me on this because I'm not %100 sure but I believe Chicago did this with Toews bonus. Also at 35 I don't think Salo can meet 60 games. Doesn't have to be 60 games either it can higher.

Highly doubt this since Doughty needs a new contract next year.

woob 11-16-2010 09:12 PM

Kings still have $5.5 mil in cap room. Pretty sure they could move and shake Iggy into the lineup.

Is it just me, or do a lot of d-men play great in Vancouver, and then fall off the map (or at least regress significantly) when they go elsewhere to cash in on the rep they built in Vancouver? Maybe its just a function of guys getting hyped and lots of media attention in a heavy hockey market, kinda like Leafs players getting hyped and then sucking when they get traded to the Flames:rofl:

Happened with Bryan Allen, Baumer when he went to Philly, Sopel when he was traded to the Islanders, arguably Ohlund...

For the most part we've been really lucky at getting guys at the right point in their careers and having them reach their potential while in Van
