Rogers would buy out the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan's 66% stake in MLSE @ ~1.3 BILLION
They'll own the Maples Leafs, Marlies, Raptors, and Toronto FC. They already own The Blue Jays so they'll essential have the biggest sports ownership group in North America.
There are also a lot of people from within Rogers pushing for the NFL to Toronto. If they succeed in this bid then that is a very real possibility.

Meaning while they do make profits each year they don't believe these profits will grow by any significant margin. Keep in mind they will still keep all real estate holdings of MLSE even with the sale.
If they sell for 1.3 billion that money can still go towards other investments. OTPP has shares in many companies.
