Everybody was showing tons of love for Cloutier

He was sitting in the suite behind us and there were mobs of people there just to talk and take pictures of him

Man, nostalgia to the max there.

I miss Ohlund, easily one of my favorite players and arguably the best defenceman the canucks have ever had. I would say Edler is working his way up there and starting to earn a name for himself, but I mean, Ohlie is a beast and it was a sad day when he took off his nucks sweater.

As for the naslund jersey retirement: people can say whether or not he deserved the honour or not, etc etc, but after it's done don't you just feel great for the guy, the club, and canucks fans all around?
growing up, being a young kid i never had the chance to witness linden's/smyl's impact on canucks hockey, so naslund was what drew me to watching the canucks, and undoubtedly one of my favourite players. tonight was definitely bittersweet, and boy oh boy would i have killed to be at that game!

I watched The Steamer (Stan Smyl) play game in game out and his jersey belongs up there. People who say it doesn't belong up there, didn't follow the Canucks like the fanatics of that era. Sure there are a lot of players that deserve recognition, but the three players who wore those jerseys hanging from the rafters of Rogers Arena meant so much more to the team and fans than just their performance on the ice or the community thing.

Gumby 12-12-2010 10:05 AM

For those of you at the game, did you guys notice how Ohlund was in a suit (he's hot btw, no gay!) for the ceremony, then in full gear 5-10 minutes later for the warmup?

woob 12-12-2010 10:08 AM

If you were watching the ceremony on TV, that was a taping. The CBC.ca stream was the only place to watch it live. The live ceremony went from 6:10 to 7:00, giving him half an hour to change for warmup.

it was heartbreaking to see him in vancouver again. you could see it in his eyes: THIS is his home, THIS is his team, he WANTS to be here.

I was at the game - ceremony ended around 6:50. Rogers Arena staff rolled up the carpets and put away the chairs, and then the players from both teams all came out to shoot pucks - including Ohlund in full gear. The players clear the ice for the zambonis, then everybody comes out again 3 minutes to 7:30 for the national anthems.

fsy82 12-12-2010 10:32 AM

anyone have a vid of the standing ovation for Ohlund?

Hondaracer 12-12-2010 10:39 AM

Listening on the radio it sounded like more boo's than cheers for clouts lol

2) raised our expectations
3) brought back trevor linden
4) if im not mistaken he drafted kesler too

edit: sorry guys, was in a rush lol

Tampa needs a solid goaltender if they want to go anywhere with the talent they have up front. (Cue Cloutier / WCE comments) I was wondering if MG was showcasing Schneider. Those first couple saves sure would have boosted his stock if Tampa were interested.. kinda downhill after that.

Schneids + first rounder or prospect for Hedman?

Some wounds might never heal. It certainly did sound like more than a few boo's were in that noise compared to the other cheers. Certainly shows the unfortunate side of Vancouver's tradition of running people out of town though:(

On the +side, didn't hear a single boo for big ol no.44.

Here's a after game interview with Ohlund

I think being honored to the ring of honors is the highest he'll be in this city.

Spoke with a few friends who were at the game and they all said it was a "clouuu", not boos

cctw 12-12-2010 02:35 PM

maybe they'll choose to retire 96 instead!
