No one deserves their numbers retired like Harold Druken and Arten Chubarov.

smyl's number shouldnt even be retired, it makes the canucks franchise look like a joke... too bad we cant take the rafter down and put him on the ring of honour :

"Nicknamed "Steamer" by Canucks fans for his relentless and hard-nosed style of play,[1] he served as captain for a team record eight seasons. He retired as the Canucks' all-time leader in games played, goals, assists and points – all of which have been since surpassed by Trevor Linden and Markus Naslund. His assist record was also passed by Henrik Sedin. Smyl's number 12 was the first retired number in Canucks' history, as it was raised to the Pacific Coliseum rafters in 1991. It now hangs with Trevor Linden's number 16 and Markus Naslund's number 19 at Rogers Arena."

262 goals, 411 assists and 673 points in 896 games played

he got retired because of that? i bet my left nut jordan schreoder (both 5'8 and two-way player) can beat his numbers in the future...

he got retired because the Canucks felt they didnt have an identity and needed to "manufacture" tradition and legacy of the team

i'm sure he's a great guy, but he shouldnt be up thurrrrr

Canucks don't have anyone that should be retired currently, hate my for saying it but sadly its true. If you were to look at the players we have in the rafters and the numbers they put up in their career you can see they are mostly being retired for their presence in the community which is good to recognize but isn't why someone should have their numbers retired in the nhl. If anything the numbers we have retired should be in the ring of honor or simply have a statue outside of gm place which is what other teams have done. I cant fully judge linden and naslund yet as their hall of fame votes haven't passed yet but if they succeed in getting in they deserve to be up there. But until then we may as well have bure or mclean up there as well. They truly have not achieved more on the ice than many other players who have not been retired.

a statue but not retire the number?..right...

Linden should be the only number up in the rafters because he is the definition of a Canuck, drafted to the Canucks born and bread a canuck, and the guy put his soul into leading the team, the guy put everything he had into leading this team every game he played, even when he returned to the Canucks in the twilight of his career the effect he had was undeniable and his leadership unquestioned

People outside Vancouver may not understand how Canuck fans can idolize a guy that never technically won them anything, but if there ever was a "hero" in Vancouver it was clearly Trevor.

Fact is this, the Canucks are FINALLY trying to build tradition as the organization has failed to do so for many years. The constant rebranding of this team really hurt the team over the past 40 years. Hell, no one knos if this blue/green will last for the next 5 years.

Regardless, my point has always been that these three were great for what they represent for the city. If this is how the Canucks decide to honor the tradition, than so be it. Keep in mind, this sorta act could lead to great things down the road. Let's say Cody Hodgson. The numbers in the rafters represent more than just numbers, it represents leadership. It tells a story to the newcomers on what it's like to be a Vancouver Canucks.

These qualities stand out amongst your regular guys that comes to the organization. It builds a team as the players in the room will learn to recognize what the greats of this organization has done for the city and the team within the city.

Of course, Linden or Nazzy getting into the HHOF as vancouver canucks would mean wonders for everyone in the city, but the HHOF has a different meaning compared to what it means ot have a jersey retirement.

The jersey retirement only has ties within the organization for newcomers to look up to
