Ok I have something I need to clarify.....

So theres no way we have cap space to keep both salo and bieksa? I was just reading something on sportnet inferring that if the Canucks manage the cap right, we could afford to have both?

i may or may not be imagining things, but i totally think that they are trying to raise his value. anyone else think that or am i just on crazy pills?

As much as people hate on him, Bieksa is a very good puck mover and puckhandler, and hasn't been noticeably bad in his own end since the start of the season.

well anything is possible. Its kinda hard to figure out cap space ect with all the callups and and injuries we've been having. Burrows missed like 10 games, and Raymond will have probably missed the same amount with his broken thumb, and Hamhius with his early injury. It all adds up in the Canucks favor. Salo isnt due back till Feb i believe, so hes gonna miss more than half the season, so his cap hit is less than half his salary depending on when he comes back. So its very possible for us to have them both.

^ Are you sure that's how the cap system works?
I thought it was differently then that.

Awesome win last night.

Simply put, it's who we have on the bench at any given time (not including healthy scratches iirc).

spoon.ek9 12-27-2010 09:22 AM

it's going to be interesting how the lines get juggled upon raymond's return. with samuelsson and torres scoring again, it'll be a tough call who gets bumped down now.

btw, great freaking pass by torres last night! that was a sweet play.

If a player misses less then 10 games or 24 days and isn't put on the long term injury reserve the money they make counts against the cap at the end of the year. It's only long term injuries that are deducted like Salo. I'm pretty sure Burrows was never on LTI so his salary when he was injured won't come off.

Hondaracer 12-27-2010 10:00 AM

From what I've heard on the radio etc if Salo is out long enough when he returns there will be no cap issues

And "long enough" seems to be mid-late January

Most people's guess is Tamby and Raymond will wing Kesler on the second line.
Samulson and Torres will wing Maholtra on the third.
Hansen and Bulduc will wing Glass on the 4th line and Volpatti (sp?) will get sent back down to the minors.

Not too sure what will happen on the D though. Can't imagine both Rome and Alberts will ride the pine after they worked so hard this year in Salo's absence.

Burrows was out for a long time... he was on injured reserve.

Bonjour43MA 12-27-2010 11:06 AM

So:

(puck cycling line) Sedin Sedin Burrows
(speed line) Raymond Kesler Tambellini
(two-way line) Samuelsson Malholtra Torres
(defensive grinding line) Hansen Glass Bulduc

Good god, I would say those are 4 pretty good lines we have huh? :) All with different playing style for the opposition's checking line to defend.

Looking good... looking very good :)

Not really racist! 12-27-2010 11:12 AM

We've come a long way....

Our third used to be something like

Pyatt - Wellwood - Bernier
:lol

You're right, it was close though. He missed 10 games and 25 days. :)

Burrows could have been back 2 games earlier but sat them out to make the 10 games missed. IIRC.

shawn79 12-27-2010 11:26 AM

Jeff Tambellini was in the 2003 draft afterall... i remember fans were crying to pick him over kesler.

Yes, the Canucks' capologist has paid off big time. Can't remember his name, but the man deserves a ceremony and painting too :p

we dont really follow the traditional (1st, second, 2way, grind) format. Kesler and Rayray are very good defensively so line 2 often plays that 2 way role. And our 4th line isnt your standard all grit no skill line either.

We sort of have 1st, 2a, 2b, two-way

shawn79 12-27-2010 11:41 AM

Datsyuk is out which means kesler will have a bigger chance of winning the selke

dan cleary is also out with broken ankle for a month

this will hopefully give canucks oppurtunity to take first in the west
:troll:

Yup, its gotta be Hansen that goes down. He's been decent on the 2nd line, but nothing offensively that MayRay can't provide really, and he's the only one who's versatile enough to still be effective on the 4th line.

Tambi producing on the 2nd line has REALLY helped the Nucks depth.

Hansen and Torres could easily share that 3rd line winger role..both are great...

illicitstylz 12-27-2010 12:37 PM

don't you feel that with our depth, the 3 lines just end up becoming numbers?

as in you're as confident watching line X play just as much as line Y? like that's how good our depth is?
