Yup, they were talked about earlier this season.

Kind of interesting, but based on those pics revealed so far...
I find it a bit lame.

The superheroes look so unoriginal, and it looks like it's just some
existing superhero design, where they alter a bit, and slap on the
NHL logo.

Now that you mention it, it does look like they were just generated using some sort of "City of Heroes" type of hero generator.

Not saying I expected much anyway to begin with.
Mixing superhero characters and NHL teams seemed silly,
unless you're a big superhero fan who just enjoy seeing new characters being created.

Stan lee probably doesnt know a thing about hockey, he just takes the names of the teams, the mascot, and the jersey into account and makes some wacked out shit, thats what it seems like so far from the early releases..

Anyways, i think i may have gotten on this before, but imo a HUGE factor for the teams current success was dumping Ryan Walter as PP/special teams coach

I noticed this during some of the first games of the season but not sure if i ever said anything, the way they break into a zone, specifically on the power play is night and day from last year, when is the last time you saw a dump and chase to gain the zone?

now they have the drop back play where usually a sedin or somone will gain the zone, either skate off the wing or towards the center, let other players move into position then either make a pass or drop it back for a dman and go deeper into the zone himself

this is a HUGEEE factor imo, the dinosaur Ryan Walter type breakouts and zone entry are a thing of the past and this new way seems extremely effective at gaining a zone while maintaining possession of the puck

punkwax 01-04-2011 03:02 PM

I'm not sure you've mentioned that before, but I agree 100% and noticed that as well.

Good luck to Wellwood.

Report: KHL team can't stomach Kyle Wellwood, releases ex-Canuck

It is not a good year for hockey players who made a jump from the NHL to the KHL last summer.

Evgeni Nabokov(notes) terminated his contract with SKA St. Petersburg. Marek Svatos(notes) came back to the NHL after his contract was terminated by Jaromir Jagr's Avangard Omsk.

Now the news coming out of Russia is that former Vancouver Canucks' forward Kyle Wellwood(notes) is on his way out of the KHL as well. Russian sports outlet Sports.ru reported that Wellwood is set to leave Atlant Mytishchi, the club Nikolai Zherdev played for last year.

According to sports.ru, "the club management is not satisfied with the play of the 27 year old, and because of that a decision was made to end the relationship."

The official KHL website still lists Wellwood on Atlant's roster. On the club's website, however, Wellwood's name has already been removed from the roster.

Considering that the winter holidays in Russia are a 10-day marathon, with virtually everyone being off from work until January 11, 2011, the information about Atlant's contract termination hasn't been made official by the club.

Wellwood played 25 games for Atlant in the KHL this season with 8 (5 goals, 3 assists) points. He is plus-6 with the average ice time of only 8:39 per game.

It seems likely that Wellwood is set to follow on Svatos' steps and try to come back to the NHL, strengthening a playoff contending club for a Cup run.

I said this from the very beginning that Ballard is no where near worth the 4.2Million dollar salary that hes making. Hes mediocre in the offensive zone and mediocre in the defensive zone. "If" its absolutely necessary to trade a D-man for Salo to be in the lineup, its best to trade him rather than Bieksa so we can free up money to resign Erhoff. If Bieksa wants back in with the Canucks, he will resign for alot less than the 3.75Mil that hes making now.

This way will only work is Bieksexcellent keeps showing up instead of Biekshit

I think part 4 is on tomorrow night at 9, the same weekly slot as the previous episodes. Watch Canada/Russia at 4:30 and finish the night with 24/7 :fuckyea:

A stanchion... the support pillars between the glass panels to hold them up. Most arenas have seamless glass panels now, but some still have stanchions that stick out slightly that can cause weird unexpected bounces like this...
