Filatov for Bieksa is a good deal although I'm almost sure we could get a better deal elsewhere for a player with less baggage.
However, Filatov is a still a former first rounder (6th). At this point, I would be happy with a 2nd round pick for Bieksa to get him off the books so Filatov is a decent trade. He never made it in the CBJ system just like Gilbert Brule never made it in their system. Hitchcock didn't like their game and his lack of defensive responsibility but on a team with plenty of defensively responsible players, it would be worth it to see if he could succeed if Vigneault tells him

Looks like Pavel Kubina is going to TB for next year.
That team is looking pretty good with a solid #1 line, solid Dmen. Now they need one of their goalies to step up to the plate.

I still think Gillis should have thrown the same deal he gave Maholtra in an offer sheet to Ladd. If Ladd accepted the Hawks would have matched it but then they would have been stuck with Ladd for at least a year since you can't trade a player for a year after you match an offer sheet. It would have been a great way to mess the Hawks up cap wise. If the Hawks didn't match we would have got Ladd for the same price as Maholtra and it would have only cost us a 2nd round pick next year.
