this 2 captain selection process will be interesting... let's see if each team will get a Sedin

yea not many rookies have scored a hat trick before their full season begins.

RRxtar 01-11-2011 10:18 AM

have they announced the 2 captains?

they should agree to pick the sedins separate and agree with AO to pick him last for lols

Ikkaku 01-11-2011 10:25 AM

would've been even more awesome if they managed to stack the teams so it seemingly resembles team Canada vs team USA with a few extras

The players from the group of 42 selected for the game will vote for team captains and two alternates per squad, who will then draft their team on Jan. 28 from the full pool of players. A roster of 21 players — 12 forwards, six defence, three goalies — will be drafted with no guidelines on choosing by position.

A coin flip will decide which pair of captains will select first. The captains are expected to be announced in the coming days.

The SuperSkills competition takes place on Jan. 29 (CBC, CBCSports.ca, 7 p.m. ET). Skills events include fastest skater, breakaway challenge, accuracy shooting, skills challenge relay, hardest shot and elimination shootout.

Edmonton Oilers rookies Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle lead the group of 12 rookies who will compete in the skills events, with other first-year players Tyler Seguin of the Boston Bruins, Logan Couture of the San Jose Sharks, and Jeff Skinner of the Carolina Hurricanes.

By virtue of winning the 2010 Stanley Cup, Chicago coach Joel Quenneville will be the head coach of one all-star team. Philadelphia's Peter Laviolette and Alain Vigneault of the Vancouver Canucks will serve as co-coaches of the other team.

Deservedly so, Hiller has been great this year.

Interesting list...
some of these guys seem to be there because of reputation rather than
having a good season.

but...... No Luongo :troll: ??

Mercy 01-11-2011 11:38 AM

^ I'm wondering if he opted to not play so he could spend time with his family.

I'm okay with Luongo being left off... there are at several other goalies with better stats that also didn't get picked. Many are surprised Ondrej Pavalec didn't get a nod.

Renthal 01-11-2011 12:01 PM

david backes made it in>? no zetterberg?

interesting..

THAT is the one thing that bothers me

im ok with Claude Giroux I guess...
I would rather see Gaborik over Marc Staal tho

fsy82 01-11-2011 12:25 PM

Zetterberg asked not to participate and was granted leave from the all star game by the NHL..this per Team 1040 as of 20mins ago

Shanahan was just doing an interview and said that certain players told their GMs they don't want to participate in the all star weekend and the GMs relayed the info to league offices before the players were chosen. Word is Zetterberg and Luongo were 2 of those players.

Understandable, Lu just had a new child and would rather take the time off to spend at home and honestly, most players I know would rather take the weekend off for a mini vacation in the middle of a long season.

dbaz 01-11-2011 12:44 PM

remember each team must have 1 player in the game which eliminates the amount of people who are actually playing good. marc staal, hemsky, elias, backs, kessel, shouldnt be there. possibly iginla as well.

RRxtar 01-11-2011 12:55 PM

they should find a way for the skills comp to seem like more of the players out there for a good time as opposed to following procedure. like what AO sorta did

Don't see anybody from the Florida Panthers, or Islanders...

Ikkaku 01-11-2011 01:49 PM

do the rookies game count? if so both teams have players in the rookie match

Each team is represented by at least one player in the game OR by the rookies in the skills competition.

There are four teams without a player on the actual all star squad.

Canucks have a state of the art dressing room with private iPod docks at each locker, interactive internet televisions, and a coffee machine that makes 20 different types of coffee.

Oilers have... A PING PONG TABLE OMGZ!

The difference between haves and have nots. The Canucks have been turning a profit for lots of years now well the Oilers have been taking a loss.

Tapioca 01-11-2011 02:17 PM

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this, but Stephan Auger is refereeing tonight's game.
