Picking it up anyways for the collection. Cover on its own, might be part of EA's downloadable content.

i doubt we'll land filatov for bieksa.

Something tells me we'll be getting draft picks for bieksa, nothing note worthy if we're planning to re-signing a couple of our RFA's.

shawn79 07-02-2010 12:02 PM

hopefully its bieksa + hansen for filatov or ladd

E-40six 07-02-2010 12:11 PM

I dont see why evereyone is in a rush to deal bieksa.

do people not remember what happened to our D with injuries?
to be honest, i dont see a problem with us have 6 top 4 Dmen
yes, it puts us in a bind cap wise, but having bieksa playing bottom 2 minutes might make him a little but more effective. If his plays get better bump up to top 4 minutes

plus having a stacked D means luongo wont be working as hard to make saves

Trading Bieksa is a necessity, not an option. We have $2.6m cap space left to sign 4 RFAs including Raymond.. you think that can be done? No way.

It would have been a great way to mess the Hawks up cap wise. If the Hawks didn't match we would have got Ladd for the same price as Maholtra and it would have only cost us a 2nd round pick next year.

ladd doesn't play center and doesn't take faceoffs.
and if we throw an offersheet at ladd, they're definitely throwing one back at raymond for 3.5m+ (supposedly weak draft next year), while we're trying to fit him for 2.5m.

pure.life 07-02-2010 02:35 PM

Not sure if this has been posted but Souray is placed on waivers

...or the Hawks let us have him and we give up a draft pick.

And there's no way the Hawks would be putting out offer sheets...they don't have the money. We'd just let them have Raymond and they'd be fucked.

LOL, no they wouldn't. Two problems with your scenario, one Chicago doesn't have 3.5m to offer to Raymund and second they'd have to give us a 1st and a 3rd round pick to do that. I'd take Ladd over Maholtra anyday of the week. We have a 3rd line center as far as I'm concerend and his first name is Cody. I'd take Ladd at 2.5 for 3 years over a 30 year old Maholtra any day.

It's a mute point anyway since Ladd is no longer a Hawk and we've already given our money to Maholtra. I was just saying it would have been a great way to really fuck them over. It was a perfect storm since they were up against the cap and either would have had to give him a way for almost nothing or sign him and be stuck with him paying more then then they wanted to pay, lose lose for them and win win for us either way.

604pt 07-02-2010 04:31 PM

That would've been a slick move on Gillis' part if he pulled that off but I'm very happy with the signing of Malhotra. Since he said it himself he'd be fine playing either centre or wing, this gives Hodgson and Schroeder time to adjust to the NHL level without all that pressure. Instead of rushing our prospects, we let them grow and mature at their pace. It's the proper way to build an NHL franchise and I'm glad we have Mike Gillis as our GM.

Bieksa for Filatov would be highway robbery, I doubt Columbus' GM wants to lose his job. Adding Filatov to our prospect pool with Hodgson, Schroeder, Schnieder, Shirokov, etc would be surreal.

Kubina signs a 2 year deal worth $7.7 mil with the team he won a cup with

Tim Budong 07-02-2010 05:06 PM

Hodgeson is gonna skip the rookie/prospects camp

MR_BIGGS 07-02-2010 05:21 PM

^^ I'm just glad he's working out and not sidelined due to injury.

Was listening to the Team1040, and someone mentioned how the Canucks now lead the league in number three defensemen...Hamhuis would be low on the depth chart on Chicago and was in Nashville as well. The Canucks don't have a true number 1 dman, but good depth I'd say.

Hamhuis isn't Duncan Keith...that guy is amazing...but he's as good as Seabrook I think and Brian Campbell is LOL.

Hamhuis is a #2 D-man in that he's not as amazing as Keith, Doughty, Mike Green, etc...we don't have a star but our defense is full of guys you'd actually want on your team...no pluggers apart from Aaron Rome...and he's not bad either. Aaron Rome would be a top 4 on a team like Columbus or Tampa.
