Kovy is an excellent player. It would be worth it to front load a contract @ 10M per as long as your cap hit was in the 6-7ish range in the end. 10M for 10 yrs is an insane move by any franchise.

He's not worth 100 over 10 years...no player is with the cap the way it is, but to say he's not that great is plain stupid.

he also doesn't have 10 years left in him lol so no team is gonna wanna invest that much time

OhSoGood 07-04-2010 01:39 PM

Kovalchuk is only 27 years old. Lots of hockey left in him.
Look at Hossa he signed a 12 year deal and he's 31

BlackZRoadster 07-04-2010 01:47 PM

I hope Ballard doesnt do the golf swing on luongo like he did on voukoun

OhSoGood 07-04-2010 01:50 PM

We probably got Ballard so he can wake up luongo when he's shitting the bed.

doubt he'll be as good as he is now @ 37
i guess what i meant is like 10 years is too long of a commitment for someone who isnt your 'franchise' player

Harvey Specter 07-04-2010 02:30 PM

The Kings would be the next Hawks in the west if Kovalchuk came over. Actually right now I think the Kings are a team to look out for.

Kovy would be just about any teams franchise player. 10 yrs isn't crazy, 10M for 10 yrs is.

Kings are nowhere close to Chicago IMO, even with Kovy....Toews/Kane/Keith/Seabrook/Hossa >>>>> Doughty/Kovalchuk

yup.. definitely a team that will make the playoff for many years to come.

Just not a cup winner yet with their current line up. They still need to address a few more things.

I agree, they are close and they will compete for a playoff spot but thats about it. Unless their forwards take a huge step next year they do not have any consistent scoring throughout their lineup and the goal tending needs to get better too.

He ain't going to LA boys

The Los Angeles Kings appear to be out of the Ilya Kovalchuk sweepstakes.

Los Angeles general manager Dean Lombardi said Sunday, “We took our best shot to meet his needs and the team’s.”

But the highly sought-after free agent forward, who was traded to the New Jersey Devils in February from his longtime home in Atlanta, turned down the Kings’ offer.

Kings do have a goalie in their system who's suppose to be the next big thing, I know he had a couple games last season, I think the Canucks played him, but too lazy to find his name.
