If the Devils do sign Kovalchuk and decide they won't be able to resign Parise they can move him at the trade deadline and get a hell of a lot for him.

Kovi played fine with the Devils. People are saying he didn't do much. He had like 3 months with them??
He's a good team guy from what I've read from different people. Although Russia sucked balls at the Olympics, he was the guy that closed the rift between Malkin and Ovechkin. He apparently brought both sides together sat them down, got the vodka rolling and that was it, water under the bridge.
With Brodeur in net, although he may be on his decline, I think the Devils will be one of the top 5 teams in the East next season. I'm glad he's not coming to the West.

Doughty Kovy Kopitar Brown Johnson Smyth...not too shabby. I wouldnt say they are NOWHERE close
if you're going to include 20-25goal/50pt players like Brown and Smyth, or 36pt d-men like Johnson then you would also need to include Sharp, Versteeg, Brouwer, Ladd, Byfuglien and Campbell for Chicago, in addition to the "big 5" I already mentioned. I was listing "all-stars" only....LA has nowhere near the depth that Chicago did in '09-10.

2 goals in the playoffs, 1 on a 5 on 3, 1 empty netter
he has never proven to be a game changer and has never won anything.

I don’t know who I’d take, but I think I would lean towards Parise for the reasons others have mentioned.
To play devil’s advocate though, Parise and Kovalchuk both have similar international hardware, so you can’t really say one Kovalchuk hasn’t won anything.
Parise has:
Gold – World Under 18
Gold – World Juniors
Silver – Olympics (scored the tying goal to send it to overtime – very clutch)
Kovalchuk has:
Gold – World Under 18
Silver – World Under 18
*2 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze – World Championships
Bronze – Olympics
*Granted the World Championships is a shit tournament.
But yeah, Parise would come cheaper, and is a two way player and his dad was Canadian

the only thing the devils might be thinking is that Bro is getting near the end of his career and they need that transitional player
but paying 8.5-9 mill doesnt help a franchise no matter who you are, 1/5 of your cap in one player? the only person who deserves that is Crosby and he isnt dumb enough to ask for that.

Would be nice if Modano could finish his career in Minnesota.. Although he hasn't been very motivated in a long time, it seems. I'm not that surprised they didn't sign him
I like Modano, he was one of my fav players growing up, but speaking as a fan of his, i would ask him to please retire. I truly hate it when great players overstay there welcome and become a shadow of their former glory. I don't want to see you play 6 mins a game, play on the third or fourth line getting 20 points a season, I don't want to remember you that way nor do i want others to remember you that way.
I can understand why he wants to play on and i know it's not for the money, but as a fan, spare me the anguish, you're too good to be a role player. It may be already too late, but follow the footprints of Joe Sakic, John Elway, Cal Ripken, not MJ as a washingtion bullet, scottie pippen as a trialblazer.

ummm Crosby's cap hit is 8.7

You have to respect someone who plays for the love of the game. Be it as a superstar, role player or veteran leader on a team. Maybe Modano won't be able to contribute like he has in the past. I can understand a fan's perspective of wanting their favourite player leaving on top, but you can't hate a guy for wanting to play for the love of the game. It's probably hard for them to leave the routine behind (having a couple pops with the boys on long roadtrips, Roxy, and other things).
So looks like Raymond, Glass, and Hansen filed for arbitration. Does this mean SOB accepted his qualifying? And what are Glass and Hansen going to argue LOL.
