Maybe the KHL player is on the Ivan Drago workout.

Yes, no player in the history of the NHL, the best hockey league in the world filled with the best players in the world have never shot harder than 105.9 MPH and some second-rate beer league filled with communists and aging players no longer good enough to play in the NHL has a guy that can beat that mark by FIVE? How plausible is that?
But either way, Zdeno Chara and the NHL probably don't give a shit. The KHL sucks and it probably will stay that way for years to come. | u hit the point, the puck was placed in between the hashmarks, so it was up a lil bit more, in which it could be the difference, im no physics man, but someone shoudl chime in on my claim

arent the speeds measured with a radar? depending on the angle of the radar it may not make a ton of difference where the shot was taken from.
and in the end, why are we trying do discount the KHL players shot? are we, as NHL fans, actually that worried that someone somewhere else has a slightly harder shot?

If another player has a shot like that fricken awesome. It's better for the game that there are great players in every league. What fun would it be if we had all the best players?

id personally like to see the following three KHL players do accuracy, fastest skating and the puck control portion of the skill relay against some of the best in the NHL
Alex Radulov
Jgar
Yashin
especially the latter two, since they are so praised over there for their contributions. Radulov tho, that kid, is the face of the KHL, but we all know he's good enuff to be a regular in the NHL, and most likely be dominant

Where the shot hits the net will make a difference on the recorded speed. Shots higher up or off to the side will show up with a lower speed than if the shot was bang on 2 feet from the ice and on the middle of the net.

I think its entirely possible someone in the KHL has a 110mph shot. Just because the guy has a crazy shot doesn't mean he's a good enough hockey player to make the NHL.
I mean, hasn't anyone seen Happy Gilmore? Posted via RS Mobile
A more realistic comparison is long ball champions not playing on the PGA Tour. They're superior in one element of the game, but don't have the whole package.

On NHL news...
Foppa is back! Quote:
It's official - Peter Forsberg is back in the NHL.
The Colorado Avalanche announced on Sunday that they have signed the veteran Swedish forward for the remainder of the current season. The team said that he will join the team and will be available to play during Colorado's upcoming road trip.
"We're proud to announce that Peter will be back in an Avalanche sweater," said Avalanche general manager and executive vice-president Greg Sherman in a statement. "Peter believes he can compete at the NHL level based on how his workouts went. He will provide additional leadership to our club and he will have an impact with this young team."
Forsberg has been practicing with the Avalanche for two weeks and declared himself ready to return to NHL action after a three-year absence.
"After testing my abilities with NHL players over the last few weeks, I feel confident that I can play at the NHL level and help this team," said Forsberg in a statement. "I wanted to see where I was at physically and I am ready for this new challenge."
Forsberg, 37, won two Stanley Cup titles over his 11 seasons with the Quebec/Colorado franchise. He was the NHL's MVP of the 2002-03 season.

Alberts should be ready to play tomorrow. Sweatt back to the Moose.
Salo not playing with Moose tonight but will play next game and should be ready for us on Saturday against the Flames.

So with Edler on the LTIR and the with the return of Salo. Is the salary cap still affected then? Or does Edler's contract cancels out Salo's? Posted via RS Mobile |

Salo's 3.5 will be prorated to games remaining in the season so they be fine. Edler's remaining salary for the rest of the season will not count against the cap Posted via RS Mobile |

The full 3.5 goes back onto the Canucks payroll once he is activated on the roster.
My assumption is they will not clear Edler to play until the playoffs (no cap in playoffs), which means we will be keeping Bieksa. If Edler is ready a few weeks before the playoffs then they can assign him to a max conditioning stint of two weeks on the Moose.

^wrong, Salo has missed 53 games so far thats 65% of the season which means thats how much we dont have to pay of his annual salary of 3.5Million if he rejoins the canucks right now

think someone already mentioned it but the KHL is a joke, the puck is placed just under half the distance it is in the NHL meaning a 13yr old could be hitting in the 90's. I guess the KHL needed to figure out a way to make themselves look better than the NHL and putting someone 6 feet away from the radar was the answer

| http://www.capgeek.com/FAQ.php Quote:
Teams receive cap relief when a player is considered to have a "bona-fide long-term injury" — injuries that cause a player to miss at least 10 games or 24 days. This is one of the most commonly misunderstood aspects of the CBA.
Just because a player is on LTIR does not automatically grant the team extra cap space. In the event a player is placed on LTIR, his cap hit still counts toward the team's overall cap payroll. Relief only comes if replacing the player's salary pushes the team's cap payroll to date over the cap. The amount of relief is limited to the amount the team has gone over the cap, not the entire amount of the injured player's salary.
There is no designation of "replacement players" and performance bonuses are not used in the calculation of LTIR relief.
To further explain this, take the concept of a bank account from 'How is cap space calculated during the season?' The team continues to spend its daily "deposit" once a player goes on LTIR, even when it calls up a replacement or multiple replacements. But any day its "payroll room" drops below zero, the team effectively receives an LTIR "credit" to cover the difference.
Example: Team A starts 2009-10 with a healthy 23-man roster. If no moves are made all season, that roster would finish the season with a final cap payroll of $56,600,000 — $200,000 below the $56,800,000 upper limit.
Take the bank account example from "How is cap space calculated during the season?" question in this FAQ. For each of the first 10 days, the team uses $293,264 of its $294,300 deposit. That adds up to $2,932,640 of the $2,943,000 that has been "deposited," meaning $10,360 is sitting in the bank for future use, if required.
* On Day 10, Player 1, with a $1,000,000 cap hit, sustains a long-term injury.
* On Day 11, Player 1 is placed on long-term injured reserve.
* On Day 11, Player 2, with a $700,000 cap hit, is recalled from the minors.
* As a result, Team A's cap payroll on Day 11 has risen to $296,890, because the daily cap hits of Player 1 and Player 2 must be included in the total.
* Although Team A only has a daily deposit of $294,300 on Day 11, it has $10,360 banked for future use, or $304,660 total.
* At the end of Day 11, Team A is left with $7,770 banked [$294,300 + $10,360 ] - $296,890. No LTIR relief is required.
* At the end of Day 12, Team A is left with $5,180 banked [$294,300 + $7,770] - $296,890. No LTIR relief is required.
* At the end of Day 13, Team A is left with $2,590 banked [$294,300 + $5,180] - $296,890. No LTIR relief is required.
* At the end of Day 14, Team A is left with no money banked [$294,300 + $2,590] - $296,890. No LTIR relief is required.
* At the end of Day 15, Team A gets its $294,300 "deposit," but has no banked money, and has a cap payroll of $296,890 that day.
* As long as the excess, $2,590 [$294,300 - $296,890], is less than Player 1's daily cap hit [$5,181], the team receives an LTIR credit. If the excess were to exceed Player 1's daily cap hit, another player would need to be placed on LTIR or Team A would need to demote a player or make another transaction to be cap compliant.
* If Player 1 stayed on LTIR all season and no other moves were made, Team A would receive LTIR relief of $2,590 per day, for each remaining day, and would finish each day, and the season, with $0 in cap space. Their LTIR credit would be $463,610 [179 x $2,590], because they only started earning LTIR credits on Day 15. | I know this is just for a 24 day injury but I think it could work like this I dunno this shit is so confusing.

basically canucks get covered for how much salo misses as hes on ltir. so basically when he comes back canucks are allowed to go over the salary cap by the the amount that is generated from the time he missed. same for the time burrows missed and the time edler will miss and the others.
Projected Credits
CURRENTLY ON LTIR:
* Sami Salo
* Alexander Edler
* Alexandre Bolduc
$3,341,375
That is from capgeek and i believe the longer those players stay on ltir the higher that will go. Basically no one needs to be traded and the canucks may actually be able to acquire someone at trade deadline.

The only time a salary is pro-rated is if a player is signed mid season.
eg. Sundin.
Why do you think some of the media is saying Edler's injury is perfect timing? Canucks place Edler on LTIR which takes is 3.5 cap hit off the payroll allowing the Canucks to activate Salo.
