I don't know if it's true for all camera holes in Rogers Arena, but I was at a game in January and noticed one where there's a plexi-glass flap that the camera lady opened to take a pic, and then she closed it up when done.

Well, I just hope you guys push Chicago out of contention.

I hate those hawks more than flames.

Hawks of last year aren't the same as Hawks of this year. At this point they're not even on the conference top 8.

Team to beat is DET and considering how things are going (being #1 & 2) we probably won't meet them until conference finals; provided our reg season success also extends post season.

(well, DET or SJ IMO are the hurdles of this year; the salary cap took care of the Hawks for us this season).

I don't know why everyone is worried about our defense. Our call ups have been fine thus far. I have no problems seeing tanev in our lineup regularly.

7seven 02-09-2011 09:15 AM

Speculation that the Leafs also will be trading a goalie today, either Giggy or Gustavsson. The Marlies had a morning game today, they were up 5-0 and they pulled Gustavsson.

Stevesimmons: Leafs have made one trade. Expect another before the day is out. Believe it or not, they're gunning for a playoff spot. Go figure.

Am told Leafs working on something else although it's not clear whether they can pull it off or not....

There's not much left on the farm. Ryan Parent is the only NHL-calibre D-man left and he would be snatched up on recall waivers. Baumer is a career AHL-er and he simply doesn't have the skill set to play consistently in the NHL. It's only a matter of time before another D-man gets injured - hopefully it happens when one of the injured guys comes back.

The way I see it is that the team is a victim of its own success. The team plays an up-tempo style which makes players more susceptible to injuries, particularly the defense. Gillis said so himself in an article in the Province today.

Side note: Page 604!

Hondaracer 02-09-2011 10:32 AM

Gustavson was pulled because of more heart problems, not cause of trade

Dunno who would want a goalie with chronic heart condition..

Leafs are gunning for a do-not-give-boston-a-lottery-pick spot. Anything beyond that is an unlikely bonus. Its a little too late to be striving for a playoff spot at this point but the Leafs seem to play better once the pressure is off.

MALKIN TO HAVE KNEE SURGERY THURSDAY; OUT FOR SIX MONTHS

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin will have knee surgery on Thursday and is expected to be out of action for six months.

Penguins doctor Charles Burke is expected to perform the surgery.

Malkin tore the anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in his right knee when he collided with defenceman Tyler Myers in the second period of Friday night's win over Buffalo. It was Malkin's first game back after sitting out five games with a knee problem and a sinus infection.

In 43 games this season, he scored 15 goals and 37 points.

They tried that last year by acquiring giguere and phanuef, it didn't work out too well. My guess is this years acquisitions wont either.

The key to the Beauchemin trade looks to be Gardiner, an offensive d man and 08 first rounder. Lupul and his high salary and injury history were forced onto the Leafs. I'm surprised the Leafs were able to get as much for Beau. Some believe this means Kaberle could be resigning with the Leafs, which is fine by me.

Damn thats a huge loss for the pens. If they go on a deep run he should be back.

fliptuner 02-09-2011 11:11 AM

That's gonna have to be a pretty deep run if he's out for 6 months...

Yeah cause the NHL is still having their playoffs in fucking August :twirleye:

raygunpk 02-09-2011 12:00 PM

6 months sounds optimistic. It's a damn serious injury, I'd say more around October/November.

Expresso 02-09-2011 12:14 PM

Pretty huge loss, they are going to need Crosby back if they are going to go deep this year. I can see their odds for them to win the stanley cup just got better lol.

shawn79 02-09-2011 12:35 PM

theres no point hating the hawks anymore... except for patrick kane because he can score and make plays effortlessly like hes got swag, but everyone in the league seem to have respect for him :fuuuuu:

All the players that were on the hawks we hated are already gone, ladd, byfulien, eager, sopel's hair, versteeg and burish.

LOL, sopel's hair...

I dunno man, getting eliminated by the Hawks twice in the past 2 years will take some time to get over. It would be awesome if we got a chance to return the favour, or boot them out of the playoff picture in game #82.

I still remember that 7-1 loss to them at home earlier in the season...

punkwax 02-09-2011 02:21 PM

I don't mind losing to the eventual Stanley Cup winners. Worst thing about playing the Hawks is the dude who sings the anthem. The guy looks like death. No soul in those eyes!

I wonder how many times we've lost to the Cup winner in the last 10 years... feels like a few.

b0unce. [?] 02-09-2011 03:13 PM

We got this.
