So the Leafs give up two lottery picks and a 2nd rounder for kessle who has 36 points this year. A year and a half later they trade away Versteeg with 35 points and a ring for a late first rounder and a 3rd round pick.

that's quite the pay raise, but i guess Atlanta doesn't need to worry about cap space anyhow.

Leafs got a 1st and a 3rd for a third liner. Considering what Ottawa got for Fisher that isn't bad.

Burke insists he isn't done making trades which could include these picks and that's the only way this kind of deal makes and kind of sense. This trade goes against the agenda Burke seemed to have so I'm still scratching my head on this one but who knows if it will make sense by draft day.

Yeah, not good. At least they put him LTIR right away so he's off the cap (1.3M?). Wondering why they didn't do the same with Edler - I mean it's back surgery, 10 games for sure.

Hopefully Hamhuis and Ballard come back soon or else who do we have left in the Moose? Maybe Rypien's almost done his "personal" leave?

I'm sure they had a good reason for not putting Edler on the LTIR. Gillis and Gillman aren't stupid...they've worked fucking magic with the cap. Maybe they're waiting to see what happens by the trade deadline and they'll suddenly find a loophole that nets us like $10m in cap space.

He has what...40+ points and it's not even 60 games in?

Even if he only scores 40 a year, $5m a year isn't a stretch. If he gets to 60 points, that's franchise defenseman material. He hasn't proven himself IMO but there's really no reason to believe he can't do this again next year.

Too bad Rypien's not a defensman and I don't think he'll ever play for us again
