As Mike Augello put it "From Toronto's point of view, you can rationalize that this deal is actually Viktor Stalberg, Jiri Tlusty(traded for Phillpe Paradis) and Chris Didomenico for Philadelphia's #1 and #3, with Versteeg taking up temporary residence for 53 games."
Burke insists he isn't done making trades which could include these picks and that's the only way this kind of deal makes and kind of sense. This trade goes against the agenda Burke seemed to have so I'm still scratching my head on this one but who knows if it will make sense by draft day. Quote:

I'm sure they had a good reason for not putting Edler on the LTIR. Gillis and Gillman aren't stupid...they've worked fucking magic with the cap. Maybe they're waiting to see what happens by the trade deadline and they'll suddenly find a loophole that nets us like $10m in cap space.
We can't buy a break on the blueline. That's like what...5 games out of 8 where a roster player's been injured?
