Not taking anything away from Keith/Toews but the main reason why the Hawks won the cup was because of their depth IMO. I'd take Toews/Keith though

Agreed. Other reasons why they won:
-players stayed healthy
-lots of secondary scoring (i.e. the depth you mention)

AzNightmare 07-16-2010 11:57 AM

and as much as we all hate him, Byfuglien was a huge piece in the playoff run.

Greenstoner 07-16-2010 12:33 PM

lol, i log in onto my fb just to add ryan kesler ...

he added me 4 hrs ago lol

punkwax 07-16-2010 07:03 PM

You guys think this PR by Kes is him connecting with fans to prepare them for him becoming Captain?

Honestly I wouldnt mind him being captain. He has good leadership, he's at the prime of his Carrier and he has lots and lots of heart. The Canucks need a captain like him who is out spoken and is willing to do anything for the team.

I wouldnt want Kesler to be captain. He gives off this arrogant vibe. I'd rather have Hank be captain.

there's a fine line between arrogance and self-confidence/pride/integrity

murd0c 07-16-2010 10:01 PM

I think the big thing is the Kesler loves the attention in a way, He will take the heat off Lu and the other players which might help all of their games.

shawn79 07-16-2010 10:03 PM

kesler was a leader for team USA in the olympics :D

Not really racist! 07-16-2010 10:07 PM

kes 4 cptn

trancehead 07-16-2010 10:08 PM

I was about to say that Hank is too soft to be a great Captain. But then I look at the likes of Nick Lidstrom. He's "soft" as well but he has undeniable talent.

Daniel would feel shafted though lol.

Anybody but Luongo! The C is too much for him

lidstrom is an amazing leader though. hank imo is leaning more towards just an exceptional player rather than a leader-type person.
also ya it might have been a cool idea for them to name lu as captain earlier for shits and giggles but at the end of the day... making a goalie captain is stupid
he can never talk to refs regarding bad calls, penalties, cant motivate his team on the ice or on the bench and the locker room leadership wont be as strong compared to a forward/defenceman

Hondaracer 07-17-2010 02:01 AM

i think Lu's leadership is fine, he just needs to focus completely on playing rather than captain duties

This is also the guy who made some stupid comment about Lou's play during the Olympics on a interview between periods about his own teammate. No other player on any team did that except him. He is not high on my list for the C IF Lou decides to give it up. Which I hope he doesnt. They gave it to Lou for a reason and not Kesler.

Ronin 07-17-2010 02:46 AM

Kes is my second choice for the C, behind Willie but since Big Willie isn't going to be with the team anymore, the yeah, Kesler for captain.

punkwax 07-17-2010 07:35 AM

I agree that Kes has some growing up to do. Calling opposing players cowards, talking smack during Olympics etc are all signs of immaturity. Not exactly what you'd expect the leader of your team to say in an interview.

Maybe getting the C will force him to mature that much quicker. You can't deny the guy's heart and ability.

During the Olympics, they were opponents. Nothing wrong with what Kesler did. Everything is left at the door the moment they step onto the ice and they play for the logo in front and not the name on the back.

RRxtar 07-17-2010 01:17 PM

Mitchell would have been the choice for a captain for sure.

Hank seems too mellow and quiet to be a captain. He seems like hes just there to play the game, not lead the team. Hes alot like Naslund in that regard. and we were all screaming for Nassy to lose the C in his last few years. also, IMO, it has to be a North American player, not a fucking SWEED!.

Kesler would be a good captain in another year or 2 once he really comes into himself. Right now, I dont think he feels this is HIS team yet.

fuck it, Burrows for the C!

b0unce. [?] 07-17-2010 01:37 PM

Kesler for Captain. Definitely. I would have said Mitchell if he was still on our team... But... eh
More like.... HAMUIS FOR THE C! Yeah!

shawn79 07-17-2010 03:33 PM

The players who want the C should battle for it.
Kesler, Hank, Hamhuis, Ballerd, Malhotra, etc...
(hamhuis cant just come in and have the C handed to him because hes a BC boy)

Have a Captain every month like minnisota. In the end let the coach choose who should be the next captain :troll:
