Losing Manny's a big loss but lets not panic. We're still getting our #1 D-man back in Edler come playoff time.

He's an important part of the team but it's not like the entire team is going to collapse now and get swept in the first round. It just means other players like Kesler will have to step up in his absence.

quality 3rd and 4th liners are what win cups, not 2nd and first liners playing extra minutes.

As great as an addition Manny was to this team, the biggest additions are Hamhuis and Ballard. We played the playoffs last year without a shut down d-man (Mitchell was out) but we got that this year in Hamhuis. I strongly believe Higgins/Lappy will fill in nicely for Manny.

Bieksa should be back in the lineup by the end of the month. Canucks need the Juice for their backend! Edler is back skating.

do you even need to look further than the hawks to question the need of good 3rd and 4th lines?.. Manny is basically the back-bone of the bottom 6

Our bottom 6 still has Hansen/Torres/Higgins/Lappy, they're all fast and responsible on the defensive side. People seem to think Manny's the sole reason why we're #1 in the league. He's a big help but IMO its more of our depth on D then his addition to the third line. I'd even go as far as saying Hansen is our best bottom 6 player.
If you asked me last offseason, in which area on our roster did we lack in order to advance past Chicago? 3rd line centre or shutdown d-man? I'd take shutdown d-man everytime.
I'm just saying with Edler coming back, no need to panic. This is the deepest team we've ever had even without Manny.

Jebus. I understand Manny is a big part of the back end but some of you guys are basically writing this team off already?!? Have some faith and yes, others will have to step up and fill the large void, not much more can be done now.

^No one is writing this team off, but some people seem to think that Manny isnt a big loss but he is. When u have ur 3rd line center being the 2nd best faceoff man in the league it will hurt that 3rd line. Imaging losing those 3,4,5 faceoffs in the defensive zone in a game, any one of those could easily end up in the back of the net. Our PK is phenominal this year, and Manny has something to do with it. Im just talking faceoffs here, and Manny brings other things to the table here.

Yeah having Niedermayer and Pronger was nothing to sneeze at, but those guys were out every night shutting down top lines, with or without those two on the ice.

Everyone hoping for Manny to be okay for the playoffs...he's injured IN THE EYE. He had a surgical procedure on his eye. How many of those do you know of that heal in 3 weeks? Shit, you can get laser eye surgery and have to wear sunglasses for weeks...getting hit in the eye with a big chunk of rubber is no joke.
There's no way he's back in time for the start of the post season. Best case scenario we have him back for the 2nd round.
Don't worry though...I know an awesome ophthalmologist. Y'all know Taco Luis, right? :IDL

When you have the best shutdown d-man in the league (Pronger) your opposition's stars are going to get shutdown most of the time. It's not a coincidence Pronger's been to 3 Finals.

Hansen/Torres/Higgins/Lappy don't (well not as much as him). What does that do? It gives you possession to send the play the other way or keep the play going in the offensive zone.
We have such a great PK cuz of the addition to Manny. I agree he's not the sole reason, but he's a big reason why. He helps take heat off of Kesler, in which we don't need to lean on him as much and it's more of a group effort.
Manny's skill on the faceoff has helped Kesler be the player he is this season. It's allowed Manny to take over that shut down role more and allowed Kesler to show off his offensive prowess.
It sucks especially when you have Raymond filling in that void to be the 3rd line center. How many faceoffs you think he's gonna win for us? What about now having Hank taking faceoffs on the PK?
I hope that Manny comes back asap because to me he's a BIG part of the puzzle we were missing the last two seasons.

Anaheim's checking line in 2007 was fucking nuts that playoff run. Force Vancouver to break up the Sedins.
