It's unfortunate that Tanner Glass is out too. He would've made a decent 3rd line checking center. He takes face-off lessons and drills with Malhotra, trying to learn how to win faceoffs so he's got a basic understanding at the very least.

I'm in panic mode and in the fetal position.

Tapioca 03-18-2011 01:01 AM

Any eye surgery is serious and I highly doubt that Manny will play hockey for the rest of the year.

It's a huge loss, but the team has to move on and find a way to win without him.

DanHibiki 03-18-2011 01:12 AM

Lets hope he isn't gone for the rest of his LIFE. There are players who ended their careers early due to eye injuries.

Isn't Ohlund partially blind in one eye because of an injury he suffered?

We have such a great PK cuz of the addition to Manny. I agree he's not the sole reason, but he's a big reason why. He helps take heat off of Kesler, in which we don't need to lean on him as much and it's more of a group effort.

Manny's skill on the faceoff has helped Kesler be the player he is this season. It's allowed Manny to take over that shut down role more and allowed Kesler to show off his offensive prowess.

It sucks especially when you have Raymond filling in that void to be the 3rd line center. How many faceoffs you think he's gonna win for us? What about now having Hank taking faceoffs on the PK?

I hope that Manny comes back asap because to me he's a BIG part of the puzzle we were missing the last two seasons.

A lot of you will say the biggest addition to our PK is Manny, well I disagree. Hamhuis is the biggest addition. He's that shutdown d-man we were missing last year (Mitchell injured).

Winning FO's is a great advantage but it's not like we're going to lose every draw on the PK without Manny. Kesler is no slouch at taking them. I have no idea why you think Raymond will be taking draws.

A lot of you will say Manny's our best bottom 9 forward, I'll have to disagree again and say Hansen is our best bottom 9. His tenacious forecheck and defensive awareness makes our 3rd line so difficult to play against. No knock on Manny but Hansen is what carries that line.

Kes was our 2nd line centre last year, still is. On pace for roughly the same amount of points. You're giving Manny too much credit.

Our biggest missing puzzle the last two seasons was depth on the backend.

Our bottom 9 is still the strongest we've had in many years even without Manny.

TheKingdom2000 03-18-2011 07:06 AM

I want it so badly this year. Come on post season!!!

Btw. I forgot how the games go in playoff's, is it 2 home 2 away... And then what?

sonick 03-18-2011 07:09 AM

2 home 2 away home away home

krazynuck 03-18-2011 07:11 AM

its 2 home for top seed (seed 1 - 4) of the conference
then 2 home for bottom see (seed 5 - 8) of the conference
then 1 home for top seed (Game 5)
then 1 home for bottom seed (Game 6)
then 1 home for top seed (Game 7)

if we win the conference we get home ice advantage throughout the playoffs and the finals as well (assuming we are top seed and win presidents trophy)

TheKingdom2000 03-18-2011 07:29 AM

Thanks guys, for some reason I was thinking it was 2 home, 3 away, and 2 home

Just to add, the higher seeded team will have 4 home games vs 3 for the lower seeded team.

Hondaracer 03-18-2011 08:27 AM

Looks like our first round matchup will either be LA, Dallas, Preds, or flames

latest update from kristin reid said raymond will be centering 3rd line and higgins moves up to 2nd for now. oreskovich has been recalled to play on 4th line with tambi and lappy. manny is seeing an eye specialist and an update on him will come later.

I think Blackhawks have a better chance of getting in than the Flames. CGY will need help from other teams in order to stay in the top 8 given that they have the most games played.

Matchups I want:
VAN vs DAL
VAN vs CGY

Matchups I do not want:
VAN vs NAS
VAN vs CHI

I don't know if he ever regained 100% of his vision, but what happened to Ohlund is apparently almost exactly the same as what just happened to Malhotra... and Ohlund was out two months and when he returned his injured eye only had 70% of the peripheral vision or something like that.

Hondaracer 03-18-2011 09:13 AM

Just get him out there with 1 eye for face offs

winson604 03-18-2011 11:01 AM

I'm game to face any of the potential 8th seeders but I fear Nashville the most.

RRxtar 03-18-2011 11:26 AM

I hope everyone is cheering for Nashville, Anaheim, Dallas, LA, and Phoenix.

Nashville has no games against Chicago so they just have to play well and hope. Anaheim has 1 game against Chicago and 1 game in hand so they could in theory bump Chicago.

I really dont want Chicago in the playoffs.

I think Nashville will most likely play Detroit so they will again be out in the 1st round.

Id like to play Dallas or Calgary in the 1st round. I dont want to play Anaheim or Chicago

fsy82 03-18-2011 11:34 AM

Bring on Chicago. We need to prove to our critics that we can beat them in the playoffs. I say once they get over that hurdle they can take on anyone

b0unce. [?] 03-18-2011 11:37 AM

Chicago pretty much ripped apart their roster. they aren't as strong as they used to be. I'm not too afraid of them.

spoon.ek9 03-18-2011 11:39 AM

i think it would be a nice confidence booster if we were to beat chicago anywhere along the road. they might not be the same team but they are still good and it's a mental hurdle we need to overcome more than anything.

Hondaracer 03-18-2011 11:43 AM

Yea I want to beat the hawks as well

Mercy 03-18-2011 11:57 AM

Yea I've been hoping us and hawks first round. Think about how pumped our guys would be eliminating them.

Hondaracer 03-18-2011 12:06 PM

if we lost to them though in the first round id litterally blow my brains out

Quoted for future reference. I'll bring the gun.
