When you say he's suspended for the first round, how many games is that? What if they play to game 7? he still suspended? If they sweep 4-0, he is eligible to play next round?

mako 03-21-2011 04:44 PM

1 round
be it 4 games or 7

What they're saying is, he could be suspended up to 17 games, minimum 14 (10 Regular season plus a 4-0 sweep). After this he comes back for the second round (if the Pens even use him, Lemieux is pissed at these hits)

Gh0stRider 03-21-2011 05:04 PM

ya first round, no matter how many games. he wont be allowed to play until the 2nd round, should the pens make it that far.

Soundy 03-21-2011 05:11 PM

Pens are nothing without Cooke, they'll never get past the first round! :troll:

They need to keep up their level of play without Manny and will need to rally around the loss of him and take momentum into the playoffs. Theres a reason why they call us one of the deepest teams in the league.

they have been dealing with adversity all season long man, i dont know why people are making a bigger deal out of this than it really is. through the season the canucks have lost ehrhoff, raymond, samuelson, bieksa, salo, edler, hammy, ballard, glass, etc. Salo, Edler, and Bieksa being pretty long term losses and Edler/Bieksa are still out. They have still managed to tear it up and be consistent. The Canucks most likely will have all their D men back come playoff time, and will be a very very tuogh team to beat. Higgins is not slouch. They still have a solid 3rd and 4th line.

Totally forgot about the D going down all year LOL. My bad.

But losing the No.2 face-off man in the league is still pretty significant IMO.

lets hope manny makes a full recovery for next season

Cooke is a valuable asset to the penguins. Cooke is pretty darn good on the pk. And is somewhat responsible defensively on the 3rdnline. He does have some offensive upside to him.

I still stand pat on what Cooke is like in person. I backed him up last time he got in shit. But this time around, I am lost for words. It was selfish. Him losing 200k + in salary isn't fair for his family either. He needs to be an example for his kids

:fullofwin:YES! HE DESERVES ANOTHER CHANCE FOR THE CUP, AND THE CANUCKS COULDN'T EVEN GET HIM IN THE PLAYOFFS FOR HIS FINAL SEASON. WHAT A SHITTY WAY TO END AN EPIC CAREER.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you BUT most people think without Manny whoever takes his spot will be 0% in teh faceoff dot. That's the mentality most people are thinking with. In reality, whoever takes his spot will probably be 50-60% so it really isn't TOO big of a blow. Heck maybe whoever replaces him will even be 60+. We will find out.

jigga250 03-21-2011 06:51 PM

Wings will be done in the first round with goaltending like that...>Howard is a sieve:failed:

Ronin 03-21-2011 07:54 PM

Manny will be missed that's for sure but the Canucks won't crumble because of it. In all seriousness, even though he's our top PK forward and amazing in the faceoff circle, Malhotra is still our third line center and if we can't overcome the loss of a player that isn't even one of the top five most important players on the team, we don't deserve to win.

Let's hope he recovers in time for the parade. You only need one eye to watch the Cup stroll down Robson! :troll:

Would your name be engrained in the cup if you're not in the playoffs but in the majority of the regular season?

Question: What is the criteria for a player to get his name on the Stanley Cup?
Answer: The Stanley Cup is the only trophy in pro sport that bears the names of players, coaches, management and staff from the winning teams.
Prior to 1977 only players who had completed the Stanley Cup playoffs were eligible. Today, players appearing in 41 regular-season games or one Stanley Cup Final game for the championship team have their names engraved on the Cup. The NHL makes exceptions for players who do not meet the standard because of injury or other extenuating circumstances.

Agreed but whoever we bring in probably can't defend the other teams best players as well, defend on the PK as well, and provide the same level of leadership in the room. That being said I'm by no means saying we are doomed without him but I don't think people are just thinking faceoffs here.

Gumby 03-21-2011 09:30 PM

Is it time to bring up the visor debate again?

I'd be interested in seeing some stats on visor use in the NHL, especially for those who just transitioned to the NHL full-time from minor leagues.

sonick 03-21-2011 09:35 PM

In my ideal world, I would force Cooke to tell his children what their father did to another player, and why he is not going to be playing the next few games.

Looks like the Flames have to basically go on a straight up winning streak (no OT) during their last 7 games to make it.

Global News: Bieksa back on wednesday.

Don't know if this is old news or not but just heard it for the first time like a minute ago haha.

And I think Kesler is our #1 pk man, not Manny. But i think its a pretty big drop.

I think we should move raymond to 2nd line and higgins to 3rd and move lapierre to 4th
