Any official numbers yet?
17 years at $150 million is stupid.
17 years at $100 million is pretty decent cap wise, but that's a lot of years committed.

Retarded amount of money I guess good if you can get it. If the Canucks ever signed a player for that kind of money not named Crosby or Ovechkin I'd be choked.

So if he gets $10m for the first 8 and then $7.5m for the next 2, that means he's making $700,000 for the next 7 years...
This is a retarded deal...

well that's the point... all these long ass contracts are just to lower the cap hit isn't it?
he most likely won't be playing the last 7 years... like luongo's contract
still overpaid i think

Hahah these long term deals are getting more and more ridiculous. CBA expires 2012, expect to see some of the same long ass deals next summer...Parise in particular.

This is a retarded deal... | I wouldn't call it a retarded deal. So he get's $95M for the next 10 years. By the time that ends, he will be 37. If he chooses to retire at the age of 38, then the contract ends and there is no more cap hit on the Devils. If he continues to play, he is making $1M per year.
$10M X 8
$7.5M X 2
$1M x 7 years.
Cap hit is only $6M per year.

While he plays, the cap hit is a lowly $6M.
This deal is only retarded if Kovy fails to perform. If he continues at the point a game pace, then it is worth it. With this deal, there is still enough $$$ left in the estimated cap space to resign Parise to a similar long term deal.
If Kovy decides to stay and play past 2020-21, then it will be bad as his cap his is still $6M assuming he can't maintain the pt per game pace at that age.

Even if kovy gets a point per game, that still doesn't justify his salary. For 6-10mil, I'd would rather choose a two way player who scores a point per game.

You wont be seeing the boring defense first hockey as you did in 2006 or whatever when our only capable line was with the Sedins.
Second of all, if you havn't noticed in the Chicago series, once again our fatal flaw was our Defense--which MG has so kindly revitalized. Hamhuis was even invited to Team Canada's camp last summer. This may be a sign that we finally have that coveted #1 dman. Hopefully this will contribute to even more offense.
If our prospects in Hodgson and Schroeder can step it up this year, we will have the kind of depth the dreaded salary cap allows: Chicago last season (kane and toews on ELC), Anahiem in 2007 (perry, getzlaf, penner line).
Boom and we have a cup contender

^Washington was first actually, Chicago was 3rd.
But yeah, offense isn't really an issue. Production from the Sedins might decrease off the start as Burrows is likely out a month or two. But we have so many options with line combos it's awesome. Sammy steps up to first line and Schroeder/Hodgson goes 2nd line?
Can't wait for camp. I hate baseball.
