and yes. many predicted perry wouldnt perform like the way he is right now. I can see what Perry is doing, its a fine job he's done. Same can be said for Daniel, he leads the league in opening goals right now and PPG. Perry is tied for Danny for GWG as well. btw..Ilya Kovalchuk is leading the OTG catagory...
Sadly, As valuable as Perry is, if he stops taking some dumb retaliation penalties, i can see him doing better. no joke | I said third period plus overtime, not overtime alone. And not to be a jerk, but have you actually watched Perry play this year? The reason he *is* doing better is because he's not taking so many dumb penalties. Yeah he's still got what, 100 + minutes, but he's got over 40 goals too.
Haha I've been a fan since '93, and with the vast majority of people my age outside of the OC, the movie did pique my interest. The fact they drafted Paul Kariya made me more into the team (local connection y'know?) until he turned out to be a douchebag. Having Selanne come over in '96 pretty much cemented it for me though, he's my favorite hockey player.
Line up Lidstrom for another Norris? Nope. Like I mentioned before, it should be going to Visnovsky (right now anyway). He's first in defenceman scoring, first in defenceman assists, and has the best +/- out of the top 5 scoring D-men. Doesn't hurt that his partner in crime leads the NHL in +/- too. As for him being the best ever? Nope again. Bobby Orr didn't need 20 years to prove he was the best ever. I won't list all his achievements, you can go look them up on wikipedia, but they are mind blowing. Best defenceman ever. Period.

I would expect Manny to be out possibly for a least a calendar year.
Bryan Berard went through a retina detachment as well and had to have 7 surgeries, with his vision never recovering beyond 20/600. I went through a detached retina last year and Manny is in for a long road to recovery, I had to have 2 surgeries (vitrectomy & placement of a scleral buckle on my eye), 1 laser procedure and 1 needle procedure injecting gas into my eye to save my vision. A year later and my vision in my left eye is only at about probably 70%, unable to make out letters to my right if I close my good eye and still attempting to recover, at least now I can make out shapes. After the surgeries I was unable to go to the gym or perform any athletic activities for about 6 weeks, as when you are exerting yourself, the pressure in your eye increases. Some of the more complicated cases require you to be inactive for 2-3months. The gas bubble in my eye also required me to keep face down and not experience any altitude changes.
I would expect Manny not to be able to workout probably till about July or so possibly and even by training camp his vision will still be compromised, making it difficult to play the game at a high speed. Berard had to take a full calendar year off from working out and a full season off from the NHL, it would appear Manny's injuries are more severe. If anyone can come back from this, its Manny, but at this point, his NHL career is of secondary concern, best of luck to him today.

Another point to keep in mind when thinking when or if Manny can come back is that in a large majority of the time, one surgery to repair the detachment can result in future detachments, tears, early on set cataracts and other issues, so I'd suspect more surgeries for Manny after today.

No one's going to get those amazing stats anymore with the refinement (and equipment size?)
of goalie techniques, and even defensive techniques.
Some can argue about better sticks, and stuff,
but I think the defensive side of the game has changed much more than the offensive side.
I'm not going to argue about Bobby Orr specifically though.
This is just a general statement I'm making about anytime someone compares old stats to modern stats.
Considering the game has changed so much, sometimes it's not as simple as just looking at stats and achievements.

So Hamhuis seems to be in better spirits and they're expecting him to be back soon. Until then, Tanev will take his spot.
Looks like Edler and Alberts will start skating with the team when they get back in town and they'll get the former to play a game or two before the playoffs. Any word on Glass' progress? http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Ham...258/story.html

This is why I don't get what at the minimum the league won't make CSA approved visors mandatory.
Visors nowadays have zero vision impairment or distortion.
if not, what would be the merits if the club would make it a team mandate instead. I imagine GM's would love to take any measures to protect their assets; especially considering IMO it really isn't at the cost of performance of 'said players.

If you've been playing with a visor your whole life, why would you remove it once you make the NHL?
Side note - they should have suspended Bertuzzi 2-3 games for his high hit on Johnson. Intent or no, there was contact to the head. Yet another example of the NHL admin staff dropping the ball... *sigh*

Visors nowadays have zero vision impairment or distortion. | Looking at that video of Manny's injury, it doesn't look like a basic visor would have helped - the way the puck came up, it could have just gone right up under the visor.
Full face cage FTW?

If Manny comes back at all, my guess is he would opt for the Dany Heatley/Colin White super visor
White switched to the giant visor in 2007 after he took a puck to his right eye in practice, suffering blurred vision. It was a wakeup call for him almost losing vision in an eye.

The puck would have to come STRAIGHT up, and parallel to the visor to get in that area. Even then, it would be a one in a million chance to score a direct hit on the eyeball (as opposed to your eyebrows) or having the visor absorb some of the impact.

Full face cage FTW? | it still would have probably decreased the speed of the puck.. or redirected it elsewhere.. all in all, a visor would have probably caused a different end result, although it coudl have been worse.. ie shatter he visor and have the shards rip him eye out.

My half visor has saved me from several high sticks and a couple pucks for sure. In fact, I should replace it soon, pretty scratched up. My last one was so bad the guy at the hockey shop asked me if I wanted to keep it as a memento lol. Guess that's what I get for going to the dirty areas. Posted via RS Mobile |

Pretty sure a visor would have helped in some way of deflecting the puck instead of
a direct puck-to-eyeball hit. If getting hit in the eye directly is one in a million chance...
a puck going straight up, parallel with your face and visor and hitting the eye, should be one in a billion.
I believe all lower leagues make visors mandatory.
I think only veterans who obviously didn't grow up playing with visors are still the only
ones around NHL who refuse to wear visors.
I don't think anyone that grows up playing with visors (which should/are already enforced in the lower leagues)
would be dumb enough to switch to playing without one once at NHL level.

All the NSH games have been snoozers. I'm expecting another one tonight too, 2-1, 1-0 type of game. Man are we spoiled compared to the 07, 08 Canucks haha.
