you would think so, but outside of minor hockey like in the ASHL etc. there's no restrictions on not wearing one, and either way your covered by their insurance, which is weird as well

Bah, I think it's just a matter of time...
People didn't wear helmets because it was deemed unncessary at one point too.
Maybe in 5 years from now when all these "tough" guys retire...

After further consultation with specialists and team doctors, today Vancouver Canucks forward Manny Malhotra underwent a second successful eye procedure. Manny Malhotra’s health continues to be the primary concern of the hockey club. Progress updates will be made available at the appropriate time. No further comment is planned at this time.

I know Ice604, you have to wear one. I THINK duffers in north van, you do. Coast and ASHL, you are correct, and you don't.
The oakleys and bauer ones are banned because they are not csa approved, I don't think it has anything to do with the height of them. They also aren't safe for direct impact, if I am not mistaken. Those Paul kariya style bauer visors are csa approved and have impact standards.
Either way, I agree it is ironic. It is better to wear one than not to have one at all.. or maybe they failed miserably under impact, where they shattered... They are mainly meant for performance (visual clarity)

I believe all lower leagues make visors mandatory.
I think only veterans who obviously didn't grow up playing with visors are still the only
ones around NHL who refuse to wear visors.
I don't think anyone that grows up playing with visors (which should/are already enforced in the lower leagues)
would be dumb enough to switch to playing without one once at NHL level. | In the last couple of years, yes all the draft picks have worn visors, and why woulnd't you. As mentioned, you grow up wearing a full cage, then a visor for your whole hockey life.. then you go to the nhl, why not stick witha visor... maybe it is their way of thinking "I am at the top level... since I have reduced protection to my face at every major level, I will take the next step as a man and wear no visor!!! grr!!!"
You see all those players born before 19xx, who had to wear visors? hahah seeing Thornton and those guys have their visors flipped up so high haha.

Its been mentioned a couple of times, but I don't see the big deal just grandfathering Visors in? Everyone thats playing now are exempt and anyone entering now must wear one. I wonder why NHLPA would be so against this. It would only affect future players who aren't even in the NHLPA yet.
Although you have to admit, serious injuries are pretty rare. So thats probably why its not a real pressing issue. Until it happens to a superstar like Ovie or Sid.

Just typical union posturing... Unions don't like being told what to do, whether it be at Superstore or the NHL.

I've been hit on the visor by a puck while sitting on the bench... no damage sustained. Who knows what would've happened if I didn't have a visor?

I don't think there should even be a debate for the merits of a visor vs. no facial protection at all.
I wanted to raise the discussion that since it's really unlikely that the NHL will make it a leaguewide mandate like they did with the helmet mandate before, why don't GM's take it upon themselves to mandate it on their team.
Especially with respect to gear that is non-performance inhibiting like visors or kevlar socks that players wear to prevent lacerations from skates (a la Bieksa). Its not going to entirely eliminate injuries but considering teams are struggling to keep their top roster healthy for an 82 game span heading into the playoffs, any injury-limiting measures at no cost to performance just seems like a no brainer to me. (from a GM standpoint)
unless there's a factor I've failed to consider.

I wear a half shield for Ice604 and ASHL.
For the past few months, I have been debating about switching to a full cage since I have been hit in the face with high sticks. This past weekend, in a pickup game, I was cut from a high dump in that require 4 stickes and a 4 hour hospital wait.
I know what my next hockey purchase will be.

If wearing a visor is anything like wearing a pair of glasses, I can imagine why some players wouldn't want to wear one. I hate wearing glasses, so I wear contact lenses as much as I possibly can. Quote:

Same thing with a tinted visor.
Unless you are Ovie and can back it up, guys will use the cage/visor as a source of trash talking.

Thornton doesn't play with one. There are plenty of young players who elect not to wear visors: Lucic and Stall come immediately to mind. | Some players don't wear it because it obstructs their vision.
I remember I think it was Salo, a couple seasons ago he had a facial injury and wore a visor afterwards. But said it obstructed his view and timing for his slapper so he took it off again.
IMO, they should all wear one. Better to be safe then sorry. Especially if you are playing on a defensive role, shots can be deflected anywhere...

Going to ask this once and for all.
Where can I stream Canucks games (someplace that's reliable, and will show every game)?
I'll bookmark and never ask again.
Edit: Nm... didn't see the post earlier above.
Is Allsorts_2 the best one?
