The loss of Malhotra shouldn't be underestimated. The bottom line is every team needs a quality 3rd line centre to make it deep in the playoffs.

You can patch up holes in the regular season easily. When the time and space goes away in the playoffs, you need skilled guys who can make plays to make it deep. Name one cup winner in the last 5-7 years that has won the cup without a marquee player. I can't think of any. If Crosby doesn't come back in the playoffs, the Penguins won't make it past the 2nd round. Same with the Blackhawks if Sharp doesn't return.

Fuck. You're absolutely right - we're screwed. Manny's done and we don't have a hope in hell of getting past the second round with his amazing scoring touch. Whole team might as well just fold up now - hell with being four points away from clinching the president's trophy, forget setting new franchise records every game, IT'S ALL FUCKING OVER! EVERYONE TEAR YOUR CLOTHES AND PULL OUT YOUR HAIR! THE BANDWAGON HAS GONE OVER A CLIFF!!

Here's an idea: go cheer for the fucking flames, and just shut the fuck up, you little pussy fucking whiner.

i am not underestimating Manny's role and importance. but I think there are more people that are overestimating his loss than people who underestimate it. Like I said, he was great in the faceoff and PK.. but we have capable guys. It isn't like whoever steps into Mannys role will win NO faceoffs, and will NOT kill any PP's. It will effect the numbers a bit, but it shouldn't effect it THAT much.

I bet you are the same type of people, just like the media, who would make a big deal out of a season ending injury with Andrew fucking Alberts.

And you're completely taking what I said out of context.

You want to disagree with me, that's fine. But, you're pushing it too far considering that this is not Fight Club.

Bottom line is that you NEED depth in the playoffs. It doesn't mean shit if your "quality" 3rd line centre doesn't win faceoffs or plays like shit. Detroit lost to Pittsburgh, so does that mean Staal is a better 3rd line centre than Draper? What about the year before when Draper's team won?

We need our depth players to remain healthy throughout the playoffs. We need our star players to play like stars, our grinders to play like grinders, and Lui playing like Lui. If everyone plays to their role, not having Maholtra is more of a speed bump on our road to the cup.

IF Lapierre steps up like the way he did last year, I would be pretty happy about our chances.

This reminds me how earlier in the year how people on CDC bitch about Nonis has done more for this team's improvement than Gillis. Yet, it's Gillis' players (Maholtra, Hamhuis) that we don't want to lose or we may not "win" the cup. lol And we are thankful for Gillis to bring in Higgins and Lapierre.

^ can't say for certain. Even if the bottom edge of the visor had managed to slow the puck down a fraction, you never know if the outcome would have been different for Manny.

Every new player in the NHL should keep their visor on.

Actually, yes it would have.

Just by seeing where the cut location was, a visor would have done plenty to protect the forehead. And the blade didn't come up from under the nose anyway. But even if it did, the visor would have protected a possible eye injury, that is if the skate had enough room between the face and visor in the first place. The visor helps!

Edit: Sorry, were you referring to Manny or Thornton? lol... Cause I was talking about Thornton...

And debate as much as we want, I still believe a visor would have prevented Maholtra's injury.
I just watched the replay again frame-by-frame and the puck was NOT coming up under, near-parallel to his face.
Nor was the puck even in the "horizontal" position. And if you guys don't believe me, watch the replay again, and see
how far Maholtra and Johnson's stick is from their body. There's no way the puck could have been deflected under a visor
from that angle. In order for the puck to deflect straight up between a visor, it would have to deflect off something close to the body, and underneath the face.

LUUUUUUUU 03-30-2011 04:21 PM

i think even for Manny's incident a visor would've helped... there's not much room between the visor and ur face... the puck would have to go go straight up and not knuckle or anything.. and from the footage that we got to see u can't say if a visor wouldn't have helped

!Nhan 03-30-2011 04:27 PM

I was talking about Thornton lol. But in either situation all we can do is debate, as we would never know if a visor would have made any difference at all.

Pretty sure you won't get X-trafil namebars on on a Premier jersey.

Leafs are taking out playoff goalies these days. There was Lupul landing on Howard and now Miller who didn't start for Buffalo after Phaneuf's shot hit him.
