Off the top of my head I'm going to guess sometime around the beginning/middle of December. After the nasty loss to CHI. Looking at the stats since then we've never lost back to back games in regulation.

NHL to eliminate body-checking by 2012? :troll:

From http://sports.sympatico.ca/home/nhl_...2013_/408b8d1b

Quote:

In a move that has already flipped the hockey world on its head, the National Hockey League has vowed to completely eliminate body contact, before the puck drops to begin the 2013-14 regular season.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman told Sports Illustrated that the time has come. Drastic measures needed to be implemented quickly, but not so abrupt as to be unfair to the players and referees. Not to mention the fans.

"By 2013, body contact will no longer be an element of this wonderful sport," Bettman said in a press release earlier this week. "In light of increased injuries, we will be working with players, coaches, trainers and referees to phase out intentional contact.

"The elimination of body contact is not a reaction to negative press," Bettman added. "This decision was made with much debate, and 26 owners agree that body-checking only distracts from what makes the NHL so attractive: incredible hockey."

Bettman concluded the announcement by stating that he will address the nation on April 2 during the second intermission of CBC's Hockey Night in Canada.

Not surprisingly, the decision has been met by outcries from many of the game's staunchest supporters.

"What's next, a Nerf puck?" said an outraged Don Cherry on Toronto's Fan 590 radio. "You kids listening at home, listen: for them to degrade the game so near and dear to the hearts of hardworking Canadians, I just can't understand it. Unbelievable. Good ol' Canadian boys know how to hit properly and take a hit properly.

"I'm just thankful I'll be retired by then," said Chris Pronger, one of the NHL's toughest players. "It's too bad such a hard-nosed game will be inherited by a generation of softies and mamas' boys. They can have it."

When reached for comment, even such skills-first legends such as Wayne Gretzky and Bobby Orr have publicly denounced the move towards a contact-free game.

AWESOME GAME! Comeback, MVP chants, spontaneous Gino surprise, and the Canucks giving the fans a stick tap salute at the end. AWESOME.

Plus my name was all big and shit up on the big screen since the Canucks twitter guys took my song suggestion.

Ronin 03-31-2011 10:00 PM

Plus me and my dad picked up a couple of the Canucks toques that they were giving away at the gate each. :)

That's not a tough question at all.

Stanley Cup, hands down.

Hondaracer 03-31-2011 10:52 PM

Not really tough, obviously the cup

82 games vs 16 games

I think alot more work and time goes into the regular schedule

True. But in the playoffs, every game counts. Make 1 wrong move and you are down 1 goal, that 1 goal can either be moving to the next round or go home.

quasi 03-31-2011 11:12 PM

I think the Presidents Trophy is tougher to get because you're competing against 29 other teams over 82 games as opposed to 15 teams and 16 wins. The variance can be way higher during playoffs which explains upsets in a series, during the season things tend to even out and the cream rises to the top. You can have just an OK team get hot for a short period and win the cup but an average team is not going to maintain like that over 82 games. It goes without saying the Stanley cup is way more prestigious and sought after then finishing first in the regular season and it's obviously hard as hell to win.

I'm sure we'd all agree, we'd trade 20 straight president cups for 1 Stanley.
