Alexander Radulov. I think he's playing in KHL but he is a potential star. Unfortunately I think he had contract problems with nashville.

Ronin 07-21-2010 05:23 AM

So he doesn't exactly count as a Russian playing in the west, does he? In fact he's so far east, HE'S IN RUSSIA.

Radulov had 58 points in his best season and like Kovalchuk, he demanded way too much money so he had to settle for playing in a second rate league like the KHL.

Gumby 07-21-2010 08:33 AM

I just read a reasonable article looking at these monster contracts at http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=328015

raygunpk lists a number of recent front-loaded contracts on the previous page. The reason those were approved is that the NHL thought it would be too difficult to prove that deals like Pronger's or Hossa's "were not negotiated in good faith." It's unlikely that Kovalchuk will actually be playing well into his 40s.

Can you just ban him now? Leave him with access to fight club perhaps.

A Russian in the west that's good, besides Datsyuk? Alexander Frolov. 50+ points per season the past 4 or 5 seasons, if I'm remembering right.

Comparison of Kovy's deal to other long term cap reducing deals

Highest total was 71 pts in 06/07.
Lowest in the last 5 years was this past season with 51 pts.

Frolov sucks

Lacks the commitment and attitude needed to be successful. There's a reason why he hasn't been signed yet.

wow, Clarke MacArthur got awarded $2.4mil per year by arbitration, Trashers walked away making him a UFA. Jeebus, if MacArthur got $2.4, what's Raymond going to get..

shitty i wonder if mas will get around 3.5 mil now... what's the highest the canucks would spend on this guy... bieksa's got his bags packed already

Derek_N84 07-21-2010 11:11 AM

Man that is going to be some serious inflated serious salary for Mason, I'd hate to lose him over arbitration. If we can get rid of Bieksa, we should have enough cap for him?

LUUUUUUUU 07-21-2010 11:12 AM

i think i would pay up to 3 mil max for mason raymond

Hondaracer 07-21-2010 11:19 AM

I wonder if a team walking away from an arbitration award makes future discussions with other players come down in price or at least give the team negotiating rights a little more power

The St. Louis Blues re-signed restricted free agent David Perron to a two-year, $4.3 million contract on Wednesday.

The 22-year old scored 20 goals and added 27 assists in 82 games last season.

I think this signing will help Raymond's case.

so they don't want the arena to sound like something other than a morgue?

raygunpk 07-21-2010 11:33 AM

Fortunately, if a team walks away from the arbitration award then Raymond's case cannot use it as a comparable. Though I'd still like to know how the eff he got 2.4.

I can see gillis signing raymond for 2.5-2.8 but I have a feeling he will get awarded closer to 3.2-3.6

I'm getting a sinking feeling that Raymond might be awarded at least $4 mil if it gets to arbitration.
