Pretty good first period. I kind of cringed about though to be honest.
I had reminiscence of Game 4 in 2009, when Canucks were trying to hold off a 1-0 lead
the entire period and failed.
A few posts and Luongo with some incredible saves helped get the win...
But I really don't feel comfortable with this defense the whole period thing.
I was uneasy that whole 3rd period too, the Hawks definately figured out their game after the 1st period.
it was clear we were protecting the 2-0 lead for the 3rd period and only taking shots as they were presented to us. ie, we didn't force anything (which makes sense!)
y'all would have been bitching if we had given up the lead entirely in the 3rd period resulting in either overtime and/or a loss.

I would have been bitching if they repeated 2009 Game 4.
They were playing a stronger first period, despite not just sitting back on defense.
I wouldn't necessarily say the Blackhawks had less scoring opportunities in the third period,
because the Canucks were playing all out D, when compared to the first period.
I just don't think Canucks need to resort in full defensive lockdown period to win games.
It's more risky in my opinon. We're skilled enough to use our forwards to keep the puck in their zone,
and eat up time on the clock as well.
Or maybe I'm wrong, and they really did figure out the canucks offense after the first period.
If that's the case, we're fcked already since it's only game 1.
I'm happy for the win, but I don't feel we really had that controlled at the end.

Edler was such a monster throwing the body around....can't believe he just came off back surgery, that was probably the most physical game I've seen him play.

A) the 2nd period is a much harder change so it's understandable the change in play
B) it's human nature to play more defensively with a 2-0 lead but probably would have been nicer to see a few more legit scoring chances Posted via RS Mobile
Great game. Louie stepped up and beast moded for us.
What's more telling is how Chicago rode their top players (Toews and Kane both played more than 23 minutes which is massive for forwards) while the Canucks played the same way they have all year...distributing minutes mostly evenly. The fourth line had a great game.

believe me, i understand where you're coming from too. that 4th game in 2009 was absolutely frustrating to watch. but, if you'll notice, the canucks didn't even have traffic in front of crawford for the entire 3rd period (almost). imo it's not that the hawks figured out our offense, it was more about us playing conservatively and not forcing the issue with a 2-0 lead. also, don't forget that this defense corps is NOT as vulnerable as previous years. we can hold a lead, we've been doing this all season long.
Where are all the posters who kept repeating how scary Anaheim is? They're not even gonna get past Nashville. Perry was losing his mind in frustration, even chopped Rinne in the nuts, what a cheap punk.
