Anybody else notice that the Blackhawks' stadium staff was playing "Where the Streets have no Name" coming out of the final TV timeout? It even sounded like the Chicago crowd liked it. :fullofwin:

The thing is...refs only gave him a 2 min penelty.

Had they called a 5 min major.... would a suspension be more eminent?

The way nhl head office give suspensions ...you have no idea what they will do..was it worse than Stolls hit from behind? not a chance!!

woob 04-17-2011 07:56 PM

^ the call on the ice has no bearing on whether the league will hand down a suspension.

DanHibiki 04-17-2011 07:57 PM

Turco in game 4? Give the nuck fans what they want. :troll:

I think it does...maybe it didn't on Torres' last hit on eberle..but in the past...it has..check the suspensions and non suspentions..

tonyzoomzoom 04-17-2011 08:00 PM

I'm sure the league will take the torres hit as an opportunity to set yet another (high) standard which they have no intentions to following through with on subsequent infractions.

I think suspensions have even been given on hits that the ref didn't see - therefore no penalty was called.

It might not have been worse than Stolls hit - but it could have been. Both are dangerous hits. Remember that he has been penalized on it before - so it's not likely that he'll get off without a suspension.

is torres hit worse than ANY of these "best" ones?

league is fucked up right now and i dont like it, shit like what happened today can cost teams games/series

scottsman 04-17-2011 08:07 PM

regardless of what the league decides about the Torres hit there are far too many arm chair athletes here. Clean, solid hockey play, not interference because the puck was at the Chicago player and he followed through on the hit. There was no intent, nothing careless done by Torres. If anything Seabrook or his teammates should have made him more aware of an incoming check.

in the old NHL, those hits and Torres hit woulda been fine..
new NHL..dont even think about it.

How will the league handle Scott Stevens if the hit on Kariya was being ruled today. What about Brian Campbell on RJ Umberger..
or Corey Sarich on Patrick Marleau(speaking of which, Marleau was a BEAST in that game. I think he scored right after the hit..or the shift after the hit...)

Hit No. 2 on Kariya would definitely have been a blindside hit in today's standards.

He never touched the puck. Read rule on interference. ://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26348

That's what makes me mad..

We as fans..the media...the players themselves..have no idea what is suspendable or what isnt'....

MR_BIGGS 04-17-2011 08:15 PM

He'll get suspended though...i think more than 2 games..maybe 3?

shawn79 04-17-2011 08:17 PM

if torres get suspended for that hit, should nhl take scott stevens out of the hockey hall of fame? :troll:

most likely double what he got before, so 4

RiceIntegraRS 04-17-2011 08:45 PM

There going to say it was a headshot cause the head was the main point of impact, which is what they wanna get rid of.

Bob McKenzie's take on the hit.

Quote:

My first reaction was classic case of Rule 48. Blindside hit, principal point of contact to head or targeted head shot. That's my view, BUT... When NHL GMs created Rule 48, they allowed the area behind the net as a "hitting area" and players need to be more aware than, say, in neutral zone.

In March/2010, a DVD went to players, coaches, and GMs saying exactly that with far more latitude given on hits behind net on unsuspecting players. In other words, as one NHL GM told me tonight, a hit behind the net is viewed more like a north-south hit than an east-west neutral zone hit.

The other big issue is principal point of contact. Was it a straight on body check where the shoulder also struck the head or was it a head shot? Remember, in the NHL, there are circumstances where a shoulder hitting an unsuspecting or vulnerable player in the head is entirely legal.

So what happens now? The NHL will review it and, IMO, 1 of 2 things will happen. Torres (repeat offender), gets LONG suspension OR he goes free. My prediction of what happens based on the DVD sent out and the "hitting area" rationale, is as follows: I don't believe he'll be suspended.

My personal opinion, based on Torres' penchant for hitting people in head, is that he should be suspended. But I don't think he will be. Finally, opinions are well and good, we all have them, but I see my job more to provide insight than rant a view. Hope I offered something.

We will know for certain in the morning where it stands. G'nite and try not to let emotion make you act like a twit on Twitter.
