Official, no suspension, or even a hearing, for Torres. Did not violate RUle 48. You'll see sources soon enough.

I am surprised NHL made a good call for once.

Vancouver Canucks forward Raffi Torres will not be suspended following his hit on Blackhawks' defenceman Brent Seabrook during Game 3 of their series on Sunday night.

There was no scheduled hearing with the league on Monday.

Torres caught Seabrook with a shoulder to the head during a collision behind Chicago's net midway through the second period. The Vancouver player was given an interference penalty on the play.

Yes in your face hawks

Nechako87 04-18-2011 09:12 AM

sweet!! I thought for sure the NHL would use this chance to pounce on us...

spoon.ek9 04-18-2011 09:14 AM

oh wow! that's pretty awesome haha.. (for us anyways :D)

RiceIntegraRS 04-18-2011 09:19 AM

Good on the NHL. If they suspended torres that would basically say to all the players in the league that u dont have to pay attention to the play n u dont have to keep your head up

Funny how everyone on CBC was calling suspension, esp Ron McLean.

:2finger:

I think every annoucer and broadcaster aside from Gary Valk, John Garrett and Bob mckenzie believed he should be suspended

punkwax 04-18-2011 09:41 AM

Ron McLean is a douche... when it comes to anything related to officiating.

Ronin 04-18-2011 09:48 AM

Most of the broadcasters thought it was a hockey play but most of them thought the NHL would be stupid and suspend him anyways.

It was a hockey play. There's a part of the rule that says the back of the net is considered more of a hitting area anyways.

AzNightmare 04-18-2011 09:51 AM

uh oh. Perhaps watch out for some classless retaliation in game 4.

fliptuner 04-18-2011 09:52 AM

WOOOHOOOO!!!!!!

Torres has been my dark horse since he went on that little scoring streak at the beginning of the season. Although he hasn't produced as much as I would've liked, I can always count on him playing hard and finishing checks. After his big hit on Seabrook, my buddies thought he might start to ease up but I knew he would play his game. Next thing you know BAMMM another big hit on Seabrook.

I do hope the refs take close note on what the Hawks mentality will be for the 4th game. They're deflated, frustrated, must win and now probably real pissed. I wouldn't be surprised if they come after a few of our top players.

He needs a nickname. Wrecking Ball, Rabid Dog, Tasmanian Devil....

edit: BTW nice commentating by CBC and the Hawks, calling it a suspension before even seeing the replay....douchebags

SkinnyPupp 04-18-2011 09:55 AM

I think most of the people calling for a suspension were doing so because of his history

sonick 04-18-2011 09:56 AM

^ he had no history of suspensions prior to this most recent one on Eberle.

fliptuner 04-18-2011 10:01 AM

Chicago Media is conceeding hahahahhaha:

The Canucks beat the Hawks 3-2, meaning you can say goodbye to this series. The Hawks couldn’t win in two tries in Vancouver. This time, they couldn’t win with a crowd of 21,743 at the United Center urging them on. Maybe Game 4 should be played at a neutral site and on Rollerblades.

The Canucks are better, and they know they’re better. End of story. End of series.
Quote:

Hawks were exposed for what they have been for the entirety of the season, which is a middling, mediocre team. This wasn't about want. Names and bums alike, the drive and will was there. But skill prevailed. Fifty four seconds in the middle fram was all it took to get the Hawks chasing again, and the Canucks gave next to nothing 5 on 5. Now the Hawks find themselves at the gallows, noose around the neck and bag over their head, with the lever about to be pulled.

orange7 04-18-2011 10:03 AM

ya.. torres is a clean, hard playing forward.

love how all the haters think he has a history just cause he got one suspension on the weak sauce eberle hit.

Hondaracer 04-18-2011 10:04 AM

They got it right.

What was fucking gross IMO last night was how right after that hit they had that video already qued up of him
Hitting some guy when he was on edmonon

Glen healey is a hack and he made himself look like an idiot last night

KIDS, KEEP YOUR HEAD UP. :fullofwin:

Props to Torres for having the balls to go and play the way he always has,
and to stand up for what he believes. Many players, after coming out of a
suspension will ease up a bit in fear of getting suspended again... especially
during playoffs. He knew eyes were gonna be on him, and first game back,
he says: Problem? :troll: And starts dishing out hard hits once again.

Quote:

The Hawks got seven power plays and scored twice. You could argue the Hawks should've had a five-minute power play in the second period when Vancouver idiot Raffi Torres leveled Brent Seabrook with an elbow behind the net. Torres only got two minutes -- NHL officiating can be downright stupid -- and the Hawks scored to tie it at 2, but they were denied a chance to continue with the extra man and perhaps take the lead.

These guys need to get facts right. There was no elbow... Idiots.

murd0c 04-18-2011 10:17 AM

Cherry will prob say something like this
Quote:

he's a good Canadian kid and that was a good hit behind the net. Kid's when you are behind the net you have to keep your head up and not look at the puck like seabrook was doing. It was a great hockey hit and this is what playoff's are about. Good to see the NHL got it right this time.

orange7 04-18-2011 10:20 AM

^

hahaha.. i can already picture him saying that

ynot-llat 04-18-2011 10:21 AM

Raffi Torres new nickname "The Raging Mexicanimal"

highfive 04-18-2011 10:22 AM

Wasn't there a similar hit on Edler last year? It caused him to leave in game 6.

Okami 04-18-2011 10:25 AM

LOL i was waiting for someone to do the "what would don cherry say"
