Good for the league. This is typical torres. Look back when then oil made their last cup run. Torres was a beast and laid out some nasty hits

Conspiracy theorists already saying that the Torres no-suspension means the league is trying to get Vancouver the cup. Those guys never cease to amaze me.

TouringTeg 04-18-2011 10:47 AM

Hopefully no retaliation on our star players.

not sure if i remember the actual hit. but it was byfuglien on edler on teh boards at the end of... the 2nd? or was it 1st.. it blew out edlers knee, nothing head related

DanHibiki 04-18-2011 11:22 AM

Wow. Keith Ballard only had 9:10 of ice time.

people are making too big of a deal about this.. he is a 3rd D pair... he does not play on the special teams... when the bench is reduced to the top 2 D pairs in the 3rd, what do you think is going to happen. It also didn't help that he made that one play where he threw the puck up the middle and was picked off at the point. It's playoff hockey man, the top lines get the chunk of the ice time when things count.

punkwax 04-18-2011 11:33 AM

^ I think people's issue is the fact that he's making 4.2M / yr.

He's a good Canadian kid and that was a good hit behind the net. Kids, when you are behind the net, you have to keep your head up and not look at the puck like Seabrook was doing. It was a great hockey hit and this is what playoffs are about. Good to see the NHL got it right this time.

Yes, because Bettman would LOVE to see more Canadian teams in the finals!

our 3rd pairing dman makes as much as a 1st pairing dman. now this is called depth.

Appearently Mike Milbury called Torres a "useless piece of garbage" in response to the hit.

Personally, Seabrook should man up like Towes after getting rocked by Mitchell. It was a bad play on his part, cutting behind the net and look back for the puck. Had Seabrook touch the puck, then there would not have been the interference call. But in a way, this is kinda the hit the league wants players to cut out.

They didn't cut it to 4 dman late in the 3rd, they cut it to 5.

He's pretty good defensively and he is an offensive dman yet he's never used on the pp.

I dunno what's up with AV's hate on him.

He must have mixed emotions. On the one hand he's finally playing on a good team and in the playoffs but on the other hand he must be quite frustrated he isn't getting the ice time he feels he's earned.

i agree. toews manned up, and i respect him a crapload because of it.

spoon.ek9 04-18-2011 12:08 PM

ballard has said on record that he's thankful for any minutes and anything he can contribute to the team. but for sure, ballard would probably want to play more on a personal level. but, this IS a team game. i for one love how deep our defense is this year!

btw, you guys see alberts walk out of the dressing room last night in his suit? hah. he looked at the camera for like 1 second. i think i also spotted tambi and hodgson in suits for the post game celebration video.

So you are telling me that you wuold use Ballard over salo edler ehrhoff and bieksa. give me a break.. have you seen ballards shot? lol.. probably the weakest slapper of all D men.. He is a very good skater and moves the puck well, BUT as already mentioned.. he is on the 3rd pairing... and he has the least, if any, previous playoff experience.

Players take ice time for the team in the playoffs. Those Ballard fanboys who cry should shutit.

So you saying pointing Mason Raymond on the point for the power play is better than putting Ballard? Who has more power play point experience in this case? Not Raymond.

I use Raymond as an example in this case because that is exactly what AV did during the lowest point of our d-men injuries. Hell he even put Rome on over Ballard.

And Salo is on the 3rd line pairing so what's your point. Neither are 3rd line players.

Checking the TOI stats, he didn't play the last 5minutes. I feel comfortable if they rolled all 6 d-men instead of 5 but whatever. In my opinion, if they are gonna play him so little they might as well trade him and play Rome (who's been solid). No point tying up 4.2 mil on a 6th man d who plays so little.

spoon.ek9 04-18-2011 12:17 PM

yeah, can't really explain why Rome was on the powerplay instead of Ballard.

carisear 04-18-2011 12:27 PM

man, teams would be DROOLING to be able to afford having ballard as their 6th dman. that's just how strong the canucks are on D this year -- complete OPPOSITE of how it's been every other year.

Before, if we would lose mitchell or ohlund, that would be it. vote for rory!

CBC's playoff presentation outside of saturday nights has been pretty weak this year, i mean no power play clock? its that hard of a problem to fix?

also im kinda getting sick of the majority of the CBC guys being in the leagues pocket, imo generally Mclean is typically more neutral than the other bozo's

murd0c 04-18-2011 01:27 PM

Not only that the camera work has been shiity. We never even saw the puck drop for the 3rd since they were still on commerical. CBC is done can't stand their shit anymore.

Yeah that was pretty weird, commercial playing then all of a sudden the game was on.

And the no PP clock was driving me off the wall!
