Do not buy royal canin

I fed my dog iams when she was still a puppy, switched over to royal canin after finding out how bad iams was for dogs. My dogs been on royal canin till about a week ago (she's a year and a half now).i was bored one day and was reading the ingredients on the package of the royal canin bag, and i clearly saw "salt". I immediately switched over to an all natural diet and saw a tremendous amount of change. Her hair stopped shedding as much so that's always a good sign, at least i think?

Anyways i just thought dog owners should know, at least if you care about your dog as much as i do

I avoid kibbles sold at major chain store. Brand like royal canin and iams spent large majority of their money of advertisement and contrary to what they say often add many filler material to their kibbles. Smaller store such bosley and tisol carry other less known brands that actually spent their money on R&D but they being higher quality are usually more expensive than iams royal canin etc.

I hate to tell you but most kibble has some sort of salt or seasoning. Some of the more natural ones don't, but a large majority do. It's just like human prepared food.

Yeah, Evo is all my cat ever gets now. Good news is that she's healthier for it. Bad news is that she's now a food snob about her kibble.

EVO/orijin has high protein, will there be kidney problem on long term usage?

There can be. This is why with kibble foods that are grain free you really have to be careful. High protein isn't necessarily bad, but some older dogs and cats can have issues.

I just bought some EVO turkey and chicken formula "small bites" for my gf's dog and am getting him away from Royal Canin. Anyone recommend any thing else since this is pretty much all protein? Like, should i mix it with anything?

TIA

Bad.

Evo is fantastic. Wellness is a good, grain free brand too. (Wellness duck and rice: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_f...duct=325&cat=4 is a lower protien food if you're looking for something not as taxing).

For cats Chicken Soup for the Catlover's Soul is my favorite (my hedgehog eats this one too).

I feed my dashy Royal Canine and still will but I guess I don't care bout my little guy as much as you do yours eh. I have yet to see a dry dog food that doesn't have some form of salt in it.

I feed Origen. When my dog gets old, I'll switch him to the senior dog formula. Don't worry about too much protein since dogs are carnivores anyways. Just don't feed them more than they need to eat.

I switched one of my dogs off EVO due to the high protein and got her on Innova.
