On their site they show that abbotsford and aldergrove are "away" (assuming long distance). Surrey is on the later in 2010 area according to this link.

my contract with rogers is ending this november.
hopefully by then i can find a wireless service that can fit to my use n budget.
rogers is a bitch n a rip off..
their service sucks, every time i call regarding to anything other than "PAYBILL" it takes years for me to get connected to a representative.
im truly sick and tired of rogers, hopefully WIND can offer me better plans when the time comes.

one major turnoff for me against wind right now is their weird wireless band. If I could use my iPhone or N82 with them, I'd jump ship RIGHT AWAY.
No joke, I was in their store, ready to make a purchase for a new SIM card, but when the rep asked me whether or not I needed a phone to work with their band, I immediately turned back...
and oh yeah, UBC and my workplace is STILL an away zone

So we can't use your own phones with Wind?
I would switch but their zone coverage doesn't seem to cover anywhere East of Burnaby until later 2010.

the thing with wind is they will never grab the premium gadget chasing market.
products such as iphone, 99% of HTC devices, most of the future winmo7 and well...everyone hasn't brought into the AWS spectrum. Its a freq currently used by Tmobile, and now WIND canada.
when UMTS dominates the world market, its tough for them to compete. Yes their plans are great, its budget friendly, but it does not cater to 75% of the people out there.
Looking past just the pricing, it's clear, its for people who need just a phone. If you need more than just a phone, well, your choices are pretty limited.

there are more phones coming with the AWS band, just not fast enough..

Fingers crossed for Wind. $35 unlimited is simply unheard of with the Big 3. Dunno about you guys, but I'm telling all my friends about it (1 has switched), and will take a long hard look once my current Bell contract expires.
Add that to their offer of "50% off for 6 months" and that will pretty much pay for your phone as well. |

I dunno if Wind can beat my plan with Fido. $53+tax for 150 daytime, 1000 evenings, unlimited txt, caller ID, voicemail, call forward, etc... and 6gb data, i know it's not unlimited data but when you use less than 500mb a month, 6 gig is virtually unlimited.

$35 unlimited talking in BC (includes caller id, call waiting/forwarding..)
$20 for 500mb
or $17 more then yours
$35 unlimited talking in BC (includes caller id, call waiting/forwarding..)
$35 for Infinite (someone used 116gb of data in one month.. talk about unlimited!)

Don't know if this is old news or not...
WIND has a kiosk set up in Aberdeen Center where the telus booth used to be (right outside Koola)

$35 for Infinite (someone used 116gb of data in one month.. talk about unlimited!) | You're missing couple things. Voicemail +$5 and Unlimited texting $5. As well 500mb is not the same as 6gb. This makes !LittleDragon's plan cheaper than what Wind is offering. A 500mb data plan knock off $5.
So the equivalent fido retention plan is $48+tax vs. Wind's $65 +tax.
My Rogers retention plan which is the same as his Fido plan but has unlimited weekends and eveings at 6pm and 250daytime comes to $60+tax including system access fee with 6gb of data. With 500mb it's $55+tax. Still cheaper than Wind equivalent.
I guess this mainly benefits users that don't have retention plans.

but hey, isn't competition good ? | Competition is always good. It'll bring the rates down for sure.
Unlike the asian market, canadians aren't use to paying 200 300 or 600 for smart phones. They'd rather sign contracts and get phones for either free or cheap.
Wind also won't succeed because the weird network they use won't work with most phones.

Wind also won't succeed because the weird network they use won't work with most phones. | WIND mobile is backed by MUCH MUCH MUCH MORE money than Bell Media Global or Rogers. the money will flow into WIND CANADA and they will continue to grow.
To fully understand what WIND is all about isnt too hard. Its cheap with alot of value. Its for people that need the basic needs. WIND is good and BAD for the big three
The parent carrier of the BIG3 can focus on smartphones, use the discount brand to drive the focus on voice only against WIND. Yes, WIND has blackberries, but thats not their biggest focus. Most phone junkies who need some sort of smartphone WILL continue to stick to the big3. As of now, WIND can only offer BETTER DEALS for data for 3/4 devices that are true smartphones. THe majority of their subscribers most likely are looking for voice, which is why Rogers/Bell/Telus isn't TOO worried when it comes to their smartphone lineup. The industry and technology is moving towards the smartphone.
The fight will be here, becuz the SECOND that hte big3 drops their voice/data to be comparable to WIND, then WIND wll have succeeded. Which is why the big3 will not allow that happen, they will fight it with discount wireless providers to keep their market share.

how is it that t-mobile survived using this "weird" network againts at&t and verizon? vice versa with the other 2. all 3 uses different bands/technology

AWS is suppose to be more stable then othe bands, which is why the FCC is pushing the auction to sell it.. If its weird network then why did Rogers purchase the AWS spectrum? http://www.gsmworld.com/newsroom/pre.../2009/3448.htm http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/a...hp?a=99&p=1493 |
