Advice Please: 2005 Hyundai Elantra HB 66 k

I know that the word Hyundai alone makes a lot of people cringe, even those who know very little about cars. With that being said, I am looking for an A to B car that doesn't have to blow anyone out of the water, and is somewhat reliable. I realize with a Hyundai I won't be getting the reliability of a Honda, Acura, or Toyota, but I really don't know too much about this make and model and was hoping some of you could give me some help.

It is a 2005 Hyundai Elantra HB, 66 k. Well maintained. The person selling it is the daughter of a family friend. She is selling for $6500

The Lemon Aid gives it a Recommended Buy, and for Consumer Reports gives it above average.

She is giving me a deadline of around noon tomorrow or she will be selling it to someone else.

If anyone has any knowledge of this specific vehicle can you please add something to the thread. Anything would be appreciated. Even "Hyundai sucks" posts are encouraged so long as you can state a reason for them, which still helps me out.

Thanks a lot guys and gals

There're not bad cars, though the 2.0 'beta' engine is a bit anemic, and the 4spd auto is pretty old school. If it is properly maintained and has not suffered from any bad collisions, I'm sure it's worth a look. At that price range, you'll be looking at base Civic and Corollas with over 100,000kms. Protege5 and InfinitiG20 are nice cars, but at that price point, you'll be looking at examples with over 150,000kms.

I'm trying to find a DD at that price range to teach my girl how to drive .. LOL

don't think you will get much first hand experience input from here. Not very many of us drive any hyundai other than the genesis coupe.

Get the maintenance records, check them and get a BCAA inspection done.

It's not a bad little car.

not much problem with thoses cars, if u keep them maintained they can last u for many years, the engines r Mitsubishi engines tho, but never seen ne major problem from them yet. and yah there resell value are pretty low, so get ready to stick with the car till it dies, if u do decide to buy it, i can help u get cheap parts for the car too ahaha

hyundais have come along way. They are greatly improving from what they used to be. However, i will still not buy one. I have driving quite a few of them (not really the brand new ones). They seem to have a lot of road noise during drive and tend to rust easiliy. I'd much rather spend the extra money for a honda or toyota. Best of luck.

My mom has a 2001 Elantra Wagon with 150,000km on it and it still runs pretty good. She bought it for $8,000, about 7 years ago so she has gotten her money's worth. She hasn't had too do any major work on it yet, just typical maintenance.

The 2005's are decent, but I feel they lack torque, and their engines sound really buzzy.

If you are looking for a basic daily driver and the car checks out OK, it's not too bad of a pickup.

Good cars and Hyundia works hard to stand behind them.
We had a Tuscon in here the other day for an out of prov inspection. One of its struts was leaking so we called the local dealer to order a replacement and they asked us to bring the car to them and they replaced all four at no charge. There was no warranty left on this car and they still stood behind it.

I have yet to buy it as I am looking at a 96 Honda Accord for half the price with 125 k. Im hoping that I can get an inspection done on the Accord and the Hyundai will still be there so I can make a decision at that time.
