Need an affordable phone that will display full HTML (no WM6) any choice out there? low-end samsung phone won't display full html, I am talking about browser that won't even display google search page or yahoo properly. any android phone will do it? |
The phone's not your problem, the browser is. FWIW, I have three different browsers on my Samsung Omnia that display full HTML pages just fine. Some handle zooming and scrolling better than others, but they all display it, no problem. But that's WM6 so you probably don't care  As I recall, there were one or two browsers that did it properly on my Treo 650 (PalmOS) as well. |
iPhone or Android will both do it. |
Yeah iphone and Android are your only hope. The only good mobile browsers are based on the Webkit engine, and that means iphone or Android. WinMo has some, but they are extremely beta, and not suitable for regular use. Get an HTC Hero or Tattoo for cheap/low res, or move up to an HTC Legend for slightly faster/higher res. Or I'm sure a lot of morons will be selling their almost-new 3GS when the iphone 4 comes out in a couple weeks. |

Presto is OK but no html5 will work, so you when you go to sites like google, gmail, facebook, etc, you will get the shitty version that will be no different from using it on a $100 smartphone. |

Full version of FB displays fine on Opera on my Omnia. It defaults to the mobile version if the browser reports that it's a mobile browser, but there's a "Full Site" link on every page that shows the standard version... plus I can tell Opera to report that it's a desktop machine, and get the standard display on Google, Gmail, MySpace, Live, etc. etc., even RS. Some Flash content even works (although not everything gets along with the mobile Flash player). |
Why would you want to use the full facebook site on a phone? I was referring to the HTML5 powered mobile version (touch.facebook.com). It doesn't work fully without a Webkit based browser. Desktop versions of gmail? You must not use your phone very much if you think that is usable. Trust me, if you plan on browsing html5 based mobile sites on your phone, you'll want Android or iPhone. It's the #1 reason I switched from WinMo after 10 years. Sites have left them behind. They had a good one going (Iris) but they got bought by RIM (so now Blackberry will even have a better browser than WinMo, imagine that!) |
HTC Legend might be affordable? But a used iphone is probably cheaper. |
Legend is about $3300 I believe, tattoo around $1700. No idea what used iphones go for, but I doubt it's $1700 |

The OP didn't ask about HTML5 either, he wanted "full" pages. |
Right. I forgot you're in HK. Prices are quite different. A used Iphone here is around $300 or ~2200HKD. |

Instead, many sites are offering mobile versions - the same content is there, but in an interface specifically designed for such devices. And most of these work best in Webkit browsers. If you use Gmail regularly, you will absolutely want a Webkit browser. I'm just giving the OP some more info, because he probably is inexperienced and may need some direction. He may not agree with me, but at least I don't come off as sounding like a Windows Mobile fanboy that is butt hurt because the OP specifically doesn't want to use "my" platform. |

Speaking of fanboys, wasn't it you over in the iPad thread who accused anyone who used or liked Apple products of sucking Steve Jobs' cock? Yet here you're recommending an iPhone as an option? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.... |
What does recommending the iphone - a smartphone that is proven to be good, if a bit overhyped and expensive, have to do with the ipad, which is a stupid fad that isn't useful to 99% of the population? I have nothing against Apple or its products. They make some good ones, and some shit ones. It's the apple 'culture' that I don't like. The annoying fanboys, and the shitty attitude they have as a company. You fail. Anyway, it's not the best idea to buy into a platform that is already discontinued, and is not as good as the alternatives in the first place. I think buying a WM6 phone today would be a horrible idea, especially if you do a lot on the net. |
Until WM7 comes out, Winmo as we know it is dead. I wouldn't even consider any current winmo phone until 7 comes. Posted via RS Mobile |
