Front Strut Bar wtf??

went to buy a front strut bar yesterday but it did not fit

it was a neuspeed bar made for my car but was 0.5cm too big.

question:

-should the bar fit perfectly when the car is on flat ground

-should i jack up one side of the car to flex the chassis a bit to fit the bar
(meaning the bars would be pushing the struts outwards a bit since the bar is
0.5cm longer than the struts, and probably means that when its off the jack
the struts would be pulling on the bar) like in this old honda tech thread:
http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1759094

since my car is 7 years old, would my chassis have been flexed, hence the bar is too big?

thanks

u gotta jack up ur car so you can have some play with the strut and it will fit. nothing to do with chassis

ok, so .5cm off is no biggie?

should i be jacking both sides of the car up or just one side and try to fit it.

as well, should i be loosening the 3rd bolt like it says here:

"Undo the 2 OUTER MOST bolts on the shock tower and set them aside, for you to use later. Do the same for the outer 2 studs on the passenger side. Place the passenger side of the bar over the 2 oute studs and insert the stud nuts over the studs, and finger tighten them with the deep well socket you used to remove them."

thanks!

my friend bought a Neuspeed Front Strut for his 2004 Acura TSX years ago.
bar fitment off by couple cm, it was a know problem.
He said he can force the bar to fit but he decided to return/refund the strut bar.

wow, a couple cm seems like quite a bit

mine is off by half a cm, do you guys think that is going to fit if i try jacking the front/center jacking point?

or would it be better going with a cheap bar that is adjustable =[

The whole point is for ur front suspension be have no load so u can loosen and wiggle them into place. It doesn't matter where you jack as long as it's a jacking point and it lifts the two front wheels.

you have to take off the top hat nuts, then raise the car slightly so that the top hat studs are almost out of the shock towers. Reason being those studs arnt perfectly vertical, they point inwards.

Maybe you should take it in to have someone properly do it for you...just a thought.

try jacking the car up from the jack point at the front end.

lift up the whole front end, letting the wheels hang loose.

undo the two required to get the bar on, maybe loosen any others but don't forget to re tighten them and be careful none of the studs drop through the holes.
