Armind 07-27-2010 02:21 PM

Is there a difference in purchasing from Apple compared to other phone providers? Woudln't they all come unlocked anywhere? For example, if I bought an Iphone4 from Bell straight up, wouldn't they only lock the phone after I go on a plan with them?

4g from cellular providers are hardwire locked. Like all the phones you get from cellular provider is come lock to that provider so you can just get it and put a different provider's plan on it. so the only way you can unlock them is with software and you ahve to keep up with the unlocking every firmware upgrade. where as with the ones you get from apple would be factory hardware unlock. no matter how you upgrade the firmware it stays unlocked.

Anyways i think i'm going to go line up at oakridge with some buddies. anyways know if they going to let us into the mall after its close to line up or are we all lining up outside the mall?

JLASA 07-27-2010 10:53 PM

forget iphone 4 wait for motorola droid X or for the carriers to support face time calling over the network rather than just WIFI....shit is weak...and it drops calls when you grab the antenna weirdly? fuck that

vash13 07-27-2010 10:57 PM

hmm.. How would you know if an iphone 4 seller has purchased it from Apple or from a cell phone provider? Any clear indications?

hoking 07-27-2010 11:09 PM

quick question: for those of you planning to lineup at the official apple store, are you guys getting the unlocked version for the full msrp price? or are you signing a new cellular contract? or are you guys renewing/extending your cellular contracts?

bring 2 simcard from different provider ie, fido & rogers. put them in, if both work its factory unlocked, if one work one does or both don't work its from a provider. Since there is no software unlock out yet you have one less thing to worry about.

so anybody line up the last iphone? know what the situation going to be like?

vash13 07-27-2010 11:10 PM

I believe you can't sign contracts at the apple store.

hmm.. I believe the iphone 4 has firmware/software unlocked already since somebody on this thread is currently using the iphone 4 for a while. It will be a pain to try different sim cards since this is the only phone right now that needs Micro Sims.

threezero 07-27-2010 11:19 PM

i'm not so sure on that. some country in europe and asian release the iphone factory unlock while US (as in AT&T) is locked. If it were true that all iphone 4 is unlock, there would be shitload of US iphone 4 for sale on cl by now like how it was with the 2g once it got software unlocked.

By i'm just assuming that roger/fido/bell ones will come locked as that is how it was since first release, if somebody else with inside information from the providers can proof otherwise that would be cool. Some1 might have already said something on the other iphone 4 thread but its way to long for me to go thru at 12 am

You wouldn't know for sure, unless you restore the phone on the spot and try like two different micro-sims

I would like to know this too. I'll probably be lining up in the wee hours of the morning.
They'll most likely make us wait outside until a certain time, and then they'll let us in to line up outside the store.

vash13 07-27-2010 11:55 PM

where do we even line up? lol it would be a shame that we lined up at the wrong door.

threezero 07-28-2010 12:03 AM

^ yes thats what i want to know. would be so funny if there is a small group of people at every entrance and once they get let in they have to fight for a spot

FN-2199 07-28-2010 12:13 AM

^ At Oakridge, I remember the midnight opening for CoD MW2, people were lined up outside the security office, and they let people in a few at a time t line up in front of EB.

I'm thinking they'll do something somewhat similar and organized.

Acura604 07-28-2010 06:38 AM

I think I will wait next year for the iphone4... BUT my 3G is getting pretty battered SO on a side note, upon release of the iphone4, would you guys expect a flood of 3GS models ending up for sale on craigslist at very negotiable prices?

Only Apple Inc. knows.
It just means they are giving themselves until the end of year to get the white paint on the iPhone right. So, the white iPhone will be out when they are satisfied with their manufacturing process. That could mean before or after the end of this year.

PS: It's not hard for Apple to just delay it again like they have already.
First it was early July, then late July and now later this year for the white iPhone.

Coles Note: It'll come out when it's ready

freakshow 07-28-2010 10:22 AM

I guess I'll have to wait since I intend to get mine while negotiating a better contract with fido..

You can take over my plan. Bought iPhone 3G when it first came out and got that package. It is upgradable to iPhone4 when it comes out, but I'd freakin' hate to line up. Also, I don't think I want it that bad.
