one interesting note is that the vibrant has a front camera but the captivate doesn't (on these specs)
bell vibrant comes w/ 8gb built-in instead of 16 | the bell vibrant has built in 16gb

any difference? | You could pick up a Vibrant. A few friends have gone this route and bought out the phone from Bell and unlocked it to work on Rogers.
Works perfectly fine ...
Except for the received SMS texts with effed up timestamps ... minor issue considering you can get a time stamp app fix from the Droid market. Other than that, everything is OK.

You mean everything works fine but the 3G network, right? So it's running on Edge or w/e? Quote:

sooo the bell vibrant unlocked wont work on the fido 3g network? but will work on edge?
if you have a fidos data plan is it automatically 3g/edge or do you have to pay extra?

Bell Vibrant runs on...............HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100
Rogers Captivate runs on.......HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
T-mobile Vibrant runs on........HSDPA 1700 / 2100
So Rogers 3G runs on 1900? I'm slightly confused now.

Uhh.. Both the Bell and Rogers SGS runs on HSDPA 850. In otherwords.. The only ones you should buy to use here with 3G speeds are:
Bell Vibrant
Rogers Captivate
AT&T Captivate

everywhere im reading i see that the Bell Vibrant runs on HSDPA 900/1900/2100 and doesn't list 850. Maybe that's why I'm confused.

Iirc I had a conversation about this with hot baby awhile ago; he said that Rogers runs its 3G on 1900 and is slowly rolling out 850 3G as time goes on.
I live on capitol hill in a basement and get shit reception with 3G so to get anything I have to switch either to edge or 3G/2G to be guaranteed a signal. The frequencies that are used in europe/asia for cellphones are used here for cordless phones, which is why we use different frequencies here.
I would be kind of surprised if the bell vibrant used 900 3G because Bell would not be able to roll out a lower-frequency 3G tower. It would also suck for those who bought it and were hoping to use it with Roido's future 850 3G network. Posted via RS Mobile |

Checked out redboard today, and all that the rogers rep posted was stuff we already knew. http://redboard.rogers.com/2010/sams...oon-to-rogers/
Maybe this is a dumb question, but do I pay tax on a hardware upgrade?

I know it's kinda confusing cause samsung released so many different models of the same phone and not all sites even know about the Bell variant. ie. gsm arena. Heck the specs are wrong even on futureshop and bestbuy's website.

It has been running off HSDPA 1900 on Fido.

between the bell vibrant and the rogers captivate, whch would you get?
I know many if not all comparions of the tmobile vibrant and the at&t captivate show the vibrant is better, but do you think its because at&t isnt the greatest and is pretty anal about what can be done with their phones? Posted via RS Mobile |

I like the looks of the captivate better. It might sound petty, but I don't want an iClone. My cell is what I'm gonna carry around with me all the time--it's like an ugly watch or wallet; you use it and have it with you all the time. WHY would you do that?
I'm lazy. I don't want to have to unlock and re-update the apn settings just to get interwebs. I'm a rogers customer and don't want to fuck around with it.
On top of that, if I buy through an actual store, I'd expect to get handset protection. I don't treat my phones nicely, and even though I'm not up for HUP, the guarantee of not being fucked may be worth the premium vs getting it on CL. Posted via RS Mobile |

You'll probably still want to root depending on how locked down the Rogers firmware is. They might have things like sidelong limitations. Posted via RS Mobile |

Rogers/Fido 3G network runs off the 850 and 1900Mhz bands. They decided to utilize 2nd carrier on their radio network. Keep in mind, not all sites have 1900Mhz from what I understand but I believe most do.
